PA Game-mode Idea.

    Who Has played SOASE? (Sins of a Solar Empire)

    Do you remember Capital ship game mode where losing this one unit meant game over? as opposed to losing your Homeworld or all of your planets?

    The unit was typically a faction specific stock capital ship with special activate-able abilities.

    Now I am NOT suggesting abilities... Since that isn't a PA thing that's a SOASE and SC 1 & 2 thing..

    I want something similar that game mode but something that would better suit PA's style of play.

    That is your "Capital Ship" it also doesn't build. The Goal? kill the other teams.

    The match starts and the "super bots" for each team are powering up.. in this phase they are invulnerable and can't be damaged or controlled. after a given amount of time they "wake up and can be used as damage dealers"

    But how does this differ from a regular game? Why not just make the Commander that during this game mode?

    Because imaginary voice.... That would be to easy, Initial Eco plus weaponry..... Plus the commander isn't designed to be part of the army but rather build the army. Big Daddy over there can greatly supplement your army but lose him and it's GG.

    Incoming Chess similes & metaphors

    Lose your Queen your life just got harder.... Lose your King you lose the war


    Mainly this game mode is for players that want the combat capabilities of the king and Queen to be swapped. Big Daddy is the King and attacks like a traditional queen and the commander is your queen that attacks like a king.

    Having Big Daddy doesn't invalidate the commander either in the game mode.. as you are unable to use him until after some arbitrary time. Not to mention the commander is a walking nuke so it is still a prime strategic target. but not the important game winning one.

    It goes without mentioning that Big Daddy is to fat to fit through a teleporter or get carried by an astraeus...

    I like nearly anything that adds variety.

    Dawn of War also has a lot to offer in game mode inspirations. Not only did it ship with several there tons of mods that added more.

    Or just make a mode that makes the commander a freakin beast of a war machine, if you start with both it doesn't really matter, and it would make it rather easy to do with server mods.

    Nah i like my chess esque mode.. traditional come is still a target that needs to be preserved but not at the cost of all like Big Daddy

    Ehh wither way works, but I like the idea of risk vs reward. Use your super unit at the cost of possibly losing the entire game, that way it wont be the best idea to just bum rush everything with the super unit.

    SOASE is not TA or SupCom 1/2 or FaF.

    Since PA is largely based on concepts derived from those games (and their many mistakes), mods will be the way to go.

    I would like the game mode to focus on using traditional game play elements to kill the king... Not King Com boxing. By making the use of traditional gameplay element and units people can use what they already know to win.

    Making the big daddy unit inactive for the start of the match forces players to use typical strategies to win. Big daddy waking up signifies the real game begins..

    Like in chess if you can pop the enemies queen (Commander) it will significantly help you later on when you try to take the king. (nuke on legs.. remember?)

    SOASE is a 4X strategy game and PA is an RTS. I acknowledge that PA is NOT SOASE.

    I am talking about creating a game play mode for PA not introducing elements for vanilla. Your point is un-applicable to me because i am talking about making a game mode where you are suggesting that i want to change the way vanilla PA plays

    This is a game mode.. that is being proposed to be added.

    Call of duty has many game modes, SOASE has many game modes... Yet those two games are unrelated...

    What I'm trying to get at is that PA will only have one game mode in Vanilla (if you dont count FFA, FFA dynamic, Alliances, or Army Teams). That mode will be Kill the King. Just like in SupCom and TA.

    PA should come stock with game modes other then those you listed above. Not to say that traditional game modes as listed above shouldn't be the primary center piece of the game. Just it should have more.

    SupCom offered multiple game modes. Annihilation or Assassination. I'd like to see more.

    "Last Bot Standing", the last commander standing wins, but players are not kicked on commander death.
    "Control" claim 51% of all metal points in the system and hold them for 8 minutes.
    "Horde" Collect X Metal in storage, with X based on the total number of metal points in the system.
    "King of the Sphere" control 90% of all metal points on a specific planet.
    "World Thief", use Haleys to steal a planet from the solar system.
    "Archeologist", capture all Progenitor artifacts in the system.

    "Self Interest" each player gets a random game mode, everyone can see each others game modes.
    "Secret Mission", like "Self Interest" but goals are hidden from each other.

    All game modes can be mixed and matched foe several ways to win.

    It would be a excellent opportunity to try those commander ability's like the deltas shoulder rocket pods.

    I like a lot of these..

    What I am saying is that we haven't heard a lot in terms of games modes other then RTS Core modes
