Normal for ~10 processes of coherentUI to be active during games?

I checked task manager recently as some games have been crashing out on startup due to runaway RAM use; can larger solar systems use 6+ GB of RAM, or it is memory leak/bug somewhere? Also, many many instances of coherentUI (around 10?) exist while the game is running.

Yep, had mine running at 6.4 gigs of ram. It'll get better as the game is developed.

I'm very curious about this. Coherent UI never runs for me, so I'm curious at what the correct number of process is supposed to be.

Coherent UI is basically just a web browser running on top of the game. If you have ever checked the task manager while Chrome is running you will see the same thing. Each page is getting it's own process in Chrome. PA splits different parts of the UI into their own "pages" and then displays them all at once as a way to use multiple threads in the ui.

The large amount of memory the game uses is normal and is a result of the procedural generation and virtual texturing on planets. Some hard decisions had to be made with the tradeoff between cpu/gpu time and memory. I think they just decided that memory is one of the cheapest components of a computer so it is better to use a lot of it rather than force people to get new CPUs.

Well. With the current build, nope.

    Coherent UI crashes for me.

Last I checked it was around 8 on the main menu and 14 in game; with all the splitting that's been going on PTE has 31 in game.

Yeah in PTE Coherent using 1.1GB of real RAM.
Though if it's not crash game work pretty well on my Intel HD4600. :)
