Disclaimer: I know this game is early access and I know it's too early to criticize it. I bought this game yesterday on the steam summer sale for 15€. An year ago I saw it's kickstarter video and was pretty amazed. Didn't back it though. This is the game from the eyes of a noob. I am sure that the bad stuff are soon going to be changed. I don't mean I hate it with my guts. Here are my first impressions of the whole shebang. Bad: 1. Forum layout/softwere is rather bad. Today's trend is using IP.board's one it seems. If the community grows I'd strongly recommend to the developers/community managers to switch to something else. 2. The game lacks tutorials/newb help. 3. A few bugs in the Galactic wars, UI and System editor. 4. Lack of sandbox( yes, I know the mod) and single player. Good: 1. Lots of units to choose from-Orbital,Naval,Ground,Air. 2. Lots of buildings to choose from. 3. Banging planets together. 4. Graphics' style. It's an original idea that combines performance with beauty. Bright colours are the way to go! 5. AI..... This thing is f****** OP even at normal difficulty in lobby matches. Galactic War's normal difficulty AI is easier to beat. Why is this good you would ask. It's very hard to create a good AI for such a game. 6. Replays. 7. I love the Twitch, YouTube, news feed integration. In some games it's almost impossible to find the darn change log. Also the integration with YouTube thins the client in size, which is a big plus when talking about a video that's going to be watch only 1 time. Recommendations from a StarCraft fan: Add a "Rally Point" feature to building structures. For example you set the rally point somewhere far from your base and all the units produced go to that point so there are no unit clusters around your "territory" Add special powers to commanders and really make the commaner THE Commander. Leading the friendly force into battle. Add climate changes. E.g. Lava level rising/lowering. Volcanoes erupting. Even random small meteorites falling. Add a minimap. Add upgrade facilities. As in "+5% speed to all vehicles" etc. Make the average game time longer. With all these units all I do is make a vehicle/air factory ASAP and start shitting out bombers and tanks. After I've got enough I just raid the **** out of my enemy. Game over; You Won! Make Bigger planets or add straight maps. Ability to send planets to the sun.
-Add a "Rally Point" feature to building structures. Leading the friendly force into battle. Uber Cannon plus the Commander isn't really mean to be Fighting, He's more of a general than a sergeant. -Add climate changes. E.g. Lava level rising/lowering. Volcanoes erupting. Even random small meteorites falling. Nope. -Add a minimap. Know of a way to make it work on a sphere without distortion? -Add upgrade facilities. As in "+5% speed to all vehicles" etc. Violates teh important What You See is What You Get(WYSIWYG) Policy. -Make the average game time longer. With all these units all I do is make a vehicle/air factory ASAP and start shitting out bombers and tanks. After I've got enough I just raid the **** out of my enemy. Game over; You Won! -Make Bigger planets or add straight maps. I'm assuming you mean flat and it is something that could happen but right now Uber's focus is on Spheres. -Ability to send planets to the sun. I've yet to see a compelling reason for why this should be a thing. All of these points have head many threads on them, another good place to get a feel for the things that you can expect from PA is the Confirmed Features List in the Useful Info Sticky. Mike
You can currently select a rally point for ur factorys. And the is a PIP (picture in picture), and no minimap will be available for this game. You can play on large planets, but the gameplay is slow if ur only a few players.
There is a single player and even a sandbox mode, but it's not very obvious. You need to go into Multiplayer, create a game, and add an AI to the other player slot. For sandbox, look for the AI's economy modifier and turn that down to 0 so that it can't build anything.
They can't. We can't even make an accurate map of OUR OWN planet, and we've seen every square nanometere of its surface from every possible angle. Picture in picture functions as a minimap though, if you have a PC powerful enough to utilize it.
I like this forum a lot more than most other forums I've seen. It would be a mistake for Uber to make tutorials for a game that isn't finished. They'd have to keep on re-making the tutorials. In the meantime, PA Matches has a bunch of tutorials. Bugs are because it's early access. There is a sandbox mode. Set the economy modifier to 0. And in the future, we'll get a more powerful sandbox mode with cheats like taking control of your enemy, pasting units, and the like. The AI is not OP. Once you stop playing like this is Starcraft and start playing PA, then the Normal AI is a cinch. I'd recommend watching some gameplay videos. Again, a lot can be found on PA Matches. Rally point feature is already built in. You can even give area patrols out of factories, which is way better than a basic rally point. The Commander already has the Uber Cannon. Even then, The Commander isn't a hero that's supposed to be on the front lines. Lose your Commander, lose the match. Keep it in your base and protected. Random events that cause damage are a confirmed no and a bad idea. Imagine losing a match because a random event happened, destroying your base. Random destruction has no place whatsoever in a competitive strategy game. Use PIP. It's better than a mini map. Furthermore, it's impossible to add a traditional mini map as a sphere cannot translate into a flat surface without distortion. Upgrades are a confirmed no and a bad idea. PA follows the WYSIWYG principle. If I look at a unit, I know exactly what it is capable of and exactly what it takes to destroy it. If you want a longer game time, play on larger maps and/or multi-planet maps. Those things often last over an hour. Bigger planets are confirmed. PA just needs to be more stable first. In short, most of your suggestions are already in the game or are confirmed no for very specific reasons.
lol....i was playing once and i just saved my commander from death and a hostile player said "you can't do anything you have no minerals" i was like....oh my prime relly? xD
Yeah it seems to be hard to get out of the Starcraft type of RTS when your so used to that, im having a bit of problem with that as well.
I had the opposite problem, getting into Starcraft after Supreme commander was a real pain. then starcraft got boring and I stopped playing it. Seriously, who wants finite resources? just silliness.
