I'm gonna give this ago. I'll livestream it, because why not. http://www.twitch.tv/thewrongcat

By the way, this will be my first time actually playing the Galactic War, so should prove... interesting?

Ran through it again with some limitations. Uber size, Absurd difficulty, no buff cards, limited to three sub-commanders and cards that unlock tech. Made a storyboard with loads of pictures: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/...-in-pictures-uber-absurd-no-buff-cards.61215/

It was more fun this time, there were times it was a real struggle. It was much more a case of rush to get safe then try and invade before they overwhelm, instead of last time which was just a rush to eradicate them.

After four hours trying to dislodge the AI from an entrenched planet, I looked at the clock and it was 3am. I have to be up for work in 4 hours. I concede defeat. For now.

For those of you sadistic enough to sit and listen to four hours of pure unadulterated torture, you can find it here - http://www.twitch.tv/thewrongcat/b/541523693

I won my first battle in 28 minutes, including about 7 that I spent trying to kill a commander deep under water with nothing but orbital. I'm not too optimistic about future battles in this war, but I'm off to a good start!

Did I not read somewhere a t2 bot has a torpedo and goes underwater? Or was that another build?

Might be in the RLM balance mod?

Nope it's in the current build. Rechecked the build notes after I posted. Snipers also shoot tactical missiles now.

Maybe they have it too. :D

I have the orbital commander loadout with the complete vehicle tech. No bots, air, or navy at all unfortunately.

Well that was just upsetting. Any time you attempted a major assault it failed. The only way to win was to pepper down death from invincible orbital units, since the enemy AI didn't build enough space power to shut that down entirely. It's not exactly the kind of awesome assault victory I was hoping for.

It was obvious very early on that building a base inside an enemy entrenched world just wasn't going to work (And any dev who thought it could work should seriously quit their job). The was unbelievably good community feedback on this topic, but it clearly didn't stand a chance. It's time to sit back with the popcorn now.

Seriously. Ask a 5 year old what happens when you drop a mouse into a pit of snakes(this might require some education on the nature of mice and snakes). His answer is NOT going to be "The mouse builds up a massive base, recruits a hundred other mice and overwhelms the snakes."

If a little kid can figure it out, then it's safe to say the situation is pretty obvious.

Yeah, the best way is to drop a grenade into the pit.

Which is why we have asteroids.

It's meant to be hard, the ai has such an eco advantage it's quite unbalanced. It's possible to beat without a massive grind, but you have to be hard on the harass, and delay the ai from getting t2 or orbital. If it gets to the point it did here, the ai should have won with superweapons. But for some reason they only use halleys inter-planetary in GW, so the only option is the epic grind.

    1) Ignore eco structures, it wont even dent them
    2) Go for build power, taking out engineers building t2 and orbital especially, and t1 factories if you have enough army to do so and you get there early enough (so there's not many of them yet)
    3) At least one sub-commander is recommended, and/or some buff cards
    4) T2 vehicles is recommended
    5) Getting off-planet is recommended for safety and to avoid them smashing. Setting up t2 vehicles on the relative safety there and streaming them back to the main planet asap is recommended

Yeah. I have to say, I wasn't mentally prepared for that sort of war of attrition. Unfortunately, as I said in a somewhat fragmented way at some point in the early hours of the morning, essentially I didn't have the tools necessary to do the job available to me. A halley or three would have been fantastic, as would some artillery. Having access to either would have made that a whole lot easier.

N.B. on what @igncom1 pointed out - making games is hard, and given what Uber are doing with this game, which to my knowledge is something that's never been pulled off in an RTS before, I feel they're allowed a fair bit of leeway to tweak interplanetary warfare until it's in a state which is a bit friendlier. Don't forget that I did not have the entire tech tree at my disposal in that game, either. It's a really tricky one to solve, but if anyone's going to pull it off, it's these guys.

I was trying the SXX+anchor creep from Wrongcat's game in my second battle and I got really excited when I found their last commander right near two orbital lasers. I selected the two SXXs and frantically clicked over and over on their commander because for some reason I always think that will make them work faster. All it actually did was crash my client! I couldn't connect to the server after a restart so I guess I have to start that one over again. It's not that hard to beat the normal enemies but I'm worried about faction leaders. I decided to play as red because I don't want to be up against a team that wants to smash moons into me.
