I should have 2GB of GDDR5 IIRC. Gonna check that. looks like my video card memory is full then, upon loading a planet. Lets see if that can be fixed. Weird settings would be weird as i didn't touch that. The recent graphics update only made stuff worse. *thinks*.. the AMD gaming evolved download optimized my settings. Could this have screwed with it?
Just try it with low "virtual texture". I totally sure it's don't touch PA settings, but Uber recently push update that reset all settings to default to avoid incompatibility with changed UI.
I am testing a bunch of things. So far, setting it to low doesn't change a thing. I did notice my server was set to america, so i changed it to EUW. (then the game crashed). So far, it seems that Earth type and similar worlds are the problem. Metal and moon planets load with ease. hell, a 4-planet system of moon and metal type loaded faster than a 1-moon earth planet.
Can you try to set settings to low, then restart PA and then try again. This is well known. Earth planets have a lot more details on them than moons or metal planets. In my personal experience metal planets are most lightweight.
Tried it, doesn't help. The driver update only seems to have made things worse rather than better.....previously the loading was hell and the game was rather smooth, now it's all hell. Sim and Server are at their respective FPS (10 and 1) but the client just rapidly fluctuates between 10fps and 30 with occasional dips to 1 or .1. The noticeable lag has gotten worse and occasionally the game just freezes. I clocked my last load at 5 minutes 40 seconds. Minus 1.5 is almost 4 minutes into the game that i start. I can't fight an AI above normal (on GW) because they're so aggressive they control half the planet before i have my first engy out.
There is something really really wrong going with your system. PA isn't faster game ever, but I have none of such problems on my crappy i3 laptop with Intel HD3000. Can you clarify what exactly freezes you talking about right now? Do you mean units not move while client and UI working properly? Or it's PA.exe freeze with non-responding game window?
During the match it's more like a stutter. Nothing moves for a second, then suddenly a jump of a few seconds forward. Before launching the actual match, it goes from "loading" to just the background, then stays like that. As in, no actual planet loads. Music plays, but clicking too much causes it to "not respond". Clicking "wait till the program reacts", the game does eventually load (~4 minutes later). Via phone cable, whatever that's called nowadays. About 7Mbps download speed, 17ms ping and 1Mbps upload according to speedtest.net. Which is weird cause if i download (e.g a game via steam), it's usually 700-800kB/s
So you don't use WiFi on laptop? Bad WiFi connection might cause freezes like you explain. This is pretty normal. Internet providers and speedtest.net show speed in Megabits per second and Steam show megabytes per second (8 megabit = 1 megabyte).
And I suppose you're not from South Africa or some Asia country, right? It's clearly can't degrade that much...
