    What did everyone think of the PACE Six Ways to Awesome tournament?

    Aside from the new build getting pushed part way through and killing the tournament, I thought it was pretty fun.

    We had quite a few no shows, as expected. But they were kicked and that didn't mess with the brackets at all.

    Everything seemed to run smoothly, and everyone seemed to be having fun. Until the new build at least.

    There also wasn't a water planet this time, which everyone seemed to enjoy.

    So. What did everyone else think?

    What could be done to improve?

    I need to test my configuration more throughly when going back to stable ;^)

    I liked the rule from a previous event that the person "listed first" hosts, it makes things really clear.

    I thought the organization was good. I prefer the tourney run via TS rather than IRC, overall good job guys!

    Yeah. Previously we were trying to lower the barrier of entry by not requiring people to install another program. But everything being in one place is just so much better...

    There's no mic requirement. So there's that.

    • It seems that the lava planet went pretty smooth, we should use it more often from now on;
    • We also need to have more strict rules over the no-show: 43 signed up, and 14 no-shows, which is 33% of the signed people, and as a result, the rollcall took longer than average;
    • Players should show up 10 minutes prior to the tournament start instead of 5 minutes;
    I believe we had good amount of casters (Oathalliance, Jonathansty and Metabolical), which was enough to have tons of fun and watch the most exciting games of each round.

    We also had some players leaving in the middle of the tournament (long before the new patch release), which really makes it harder to organize it

    and most important: never forget your commander in the wilderness with no AA xD
    and if you are going to snipe a commander using T1 bombers, make sure your energy wont collapse

    I think the roll call could be a good thing, provided it is quick and easy. Doing everything through TS was also good.

    Keep up the good work, it was very fun!

    I thought the patch change halfway through was brilliant.

    I think annoucing prize pool and then withdrawing from such promise is not nice thing to do. I understand circumstances that happened with the patch and stuff, but in Starcraft 2 when organisation doesn't pay out the money from tournament, there is usually huge shitstorm all over the community. I know things are much less serious here in PA, but if you want to create real esport organisation, stuff like this shouldn't happen. People practice specifically for the tournament, then they rearrange RL plans to be able to show up for the tourney and then you just say "sorry, nope". I think you said prize pool is going to be moved to the big tourney but this is completely different tourney at different time and who knows what will happen in it, so I think this is still not the way it should be.

    The circumstances that created the issue was out of PACE's control.

    There were players who were in position to win the prize, but then didn't win because of game breaking bugs introduced by the new build.

    The removal of the prize pool was done entirely because of the new balance build throwing off players and new bugs making the game unplayable by a lot of players.

    It isn't fair to give people a prize since they won because their opponent's game wouldn't work.

    I have to admit I do feel for Matiz.

    He won the tournament, he was the only undefeated player, and he didn't actually withdraw for any reason. I was the person Matiz played in what became the final, and I would have had no issue with Matiz taking the first placed prize.

    Technically, Matiz shouldn't have been allowed to play in this tournament as he left the last tournament early.

    You have to work on the spawns for the maps, those were the only problems, there were a lot of unfair spawns which caused a lot of players a disadvantage. And that stupid patch, what a bitch.

    Making perfectly fair spawns is extremely difficult. From what I've heard, every tournament, no matter who has hosted it, has had at least one spawn issue. And the latest builds have introduced some poor spawn mechanics, which makes it even more difficult.

    The guys over at PACE work pretty hard to ensure fair spawns, but it's difficult. Also doesn't help that the guy who normally does it had some hardware failure and couldn't do it for this tournament.

    Well, I wouldnt consider giving the prize due to the patch in the middle of the tournament. Besides the balance changes, there were several graphics changes, and some casters were having screen flickering and bad visualization. But since Neptunio was the only person capable of dethroning Matiz, we might reconsider that. But we will have to wait for @oathalliance to discuss this. But keep in mind that $50 is the total prize, not the real prize for the 1st.

    We received complains about spawns in the round 4 only, at least that is what I heard in the streamings
    People complained that round 5 had too much water
    Again, testing maps is a very hard and time consuming, and not to mention subjective, because I may consider a spawn to be reasonable, and you may say that is terrible, or you could say is too overpowered. I admit I failed to test the maps because my computer broke down 1 week prior to the tournament

    I also would like to receive the feedback on the other maps of the tournament

    Well there is a big problem here. Why was Matiz in the tournament in the first place, when he should have been banned? How do you explain this decision to other players that get banned and demand a second chance? You gave it to Matiz, so you have to give it to everyone. How will you handle this in the future?

    We actually did provide it to everyone in this tournament. Since this was the last tournament to possibly qualify for the Progenitor Cup I didn't see a reason to remove people who might have been banned from the last one.

    So, for this tournament everyone was extended a measure of mercy.

    Oh, and the one time I won I couldn't find the mentioned form to report it; result seemed to appear anyway.
