What. I know this theory since a bunch of years. Why is it in the news now?

    A) It's technically a hypothesis
    B) The planetoid struck the Earth.

And the zebra was black with white stripes!

As in what's the difference, really? :p

So the text doesn't say the theory wasn't supported before, but it just says the moon is not 10-30 but about 50% earth wich makes the collision more likely to have happened? That is all there is to it i think. Not really a news item : S

    Well.. yes.. but-

The points was that it's seemingly the same, black with white stripes, white with black stripes...

The planetoid struck us, we struck the planetoid... Really we were both moving so meh.

Wow! This is a cranky forum. It's news today because they just announced first direct evidence for the theory.
    In other news, it's Friday!

Meh, the "Conscience or something more sinister" brings up thoughts of articles about man never actually going to the moon. Because the moon is made of cheese and the "moon rocks" are not cheese therefor they did not come from the moon! Or something like that I tend to stop reading after the first few sentences.

But the news about the different composition ratios of Oxygen isotopes to comparable Earth rocks is new to me and does support that the proto solar system was very much like a game of billiards.

Obviously some sufficiently advanced civilization wanted to smash our planet...
    What? its obvious!

We must be really throwing the words direct evidence under the bus here. If you actually read what the scientists found, they only detected a small variation in the oxygen isotope concentration. In light of the theory they are working with, it introduces INDIRECT evidence for the theory.

Direct evidence would involve a video recording or complete mass composition scan of the moon.

Not an obscure variation in oxygen concentration (though it is significant).

Small variations in oxygen isotope concentrations are all the evidence I need. It's now a fact. SCIENCE!

    The real question is:

Will this be possible if we collide two relatively large bodies in PA?

Naa, the resulting congealment of any mass would take hundreds of millions of years.

What will be cool is if a planet is rendered untouchable by a sufficiently large collision. I wanna see two planets mutually annihilate.
