Uber is Gearing Up for a Combat Balance Pass (And Expect Performance Improvements Soon)

    This is the part that interested me the most.

    With The Realm working on their balance mod, and Uber making another pass at combat balance, I expect PA to get a lot more interesting real quick.

    Excited to hear about performance improvements. That's honestly the most exciting thing to me right now - once games can be a bit less laggy near the end, once I don't have to close and start up the game after every match, once all of those quality of life improvements are made.. this is gunna be amazing

    Any news on whether it might be streamed? It could be kinda cool to watch, if only to understand a bit how Uber works and their thoughts on what each unit should be / the direction it should go

    Haha ideally I'd leave it running as I get my work done for the night. It's just not something you get to see / understand everyday. I feel like it could actually be pretty cool. Sure, it's nothing to spend a night sitting around watching but having it play in the background as you do a coding project of your own?

    You gotta admit the idea has at least some... maybe "a" (singular) merit

    i kind of don't want to be an A-hole, but the combat balance was a known issue. You gotta have a smooth game to make a good balance, which is why as of late ("late" being the past few months) Uber's mostly been dishing out not-so-sexy-but-stable builds.

    Once all the variables are in place, you can start building a very delicate framework called balance on top of that. which is why it's been forever. Similarly, this is why the UI hasn't changed much despite Uber calling it, well, bad. Because if you design a sexy UI and then have to cram in some last-minute-change button, it looks extremely off.

    now, discussion are good (when done nicely) and the combat fabber is a discussion worth having. so do continue doing that.

    Nova, Balistic Logistics and Promethean are not part of the 'cool crowd' I'm afraid...

    Only realm players could possibly create a balance mod worthy of playing /sarcasm

    Ah well, forgiven ;)

    We're working on a balance mod to push for roles of units, trying to make unit composition critical. Basically an army of one unit won't get you anywhere against an army of mixed units because the mixed unit army works together very well. We also want to severely lower the cost of Advanced to go more in line with basic (however not all units will follow this, some will cost more because of strength.)

    Something like, my edited triple barrel turret fires at a very fast rate (6.0 I think) and does quite low damage, with some aoe, it rips apart bots but can't really hold off against tanks. It takes 14 ants to overwhelm it (just ants) so it costs roughly the amount of 14 ants, with some boost to discourage turltling.
