I think early on in the project (during a livestream) Neutrino said they were contemplating using lights as a gameplay-altering mechanic on the nighttime side of planets. I think that might be what they're talking about.

Dude...don't smoke the stuff that your profile pic is smoking...it hasn't done her/him much good, lol

Phantomtom may be referring to the football stadium type lights that one of the devs mentioned a fair while back...or he could be really high, lol.

Because i like to know:) Everyone likes to know stuff.
Cool stuff, what will or will not be in the game.
And why can`t we discuss the things that will be in the game, or the stuff that they said may be in the game.
And i must not know. I want to know:p
Im talking about bright shiny lights that volatilized everything that enters.
That last one was a joke btw

I guess having to build stationary lights could be a cool idea?... But ultimately it is a waste of resources and dev time because lets face it, who wants to build cosmetic lights around their bases when they could be rolling out units / buildings / colliding entire planets together? I know I wouldn't even if I enjoyed that sort of cosmetic, Sim-city-esque tomfoolery

I dont think its bright at all, it`s one minded and very much not fantastic at all! Like where is you`re fantasy? Why does it have to be stationary, do u have to build it? and does it have to be tactical at all? Or just pure better looking?

Thats not my point. My point is that having lights really in any form beyond those already existing on units (or at least I think they do) is useless as they provide no strategic depth to the game in return for their use of developer resources. Any sort of overall brightening / day-night cycle can be implemented through graphical patches and ones that I am a fan of as it makes the lighting / HDR (?) / reflection effects on buildings gorgeous.

Mavor played with the idea of having kind of lanterns to light up your base, because he wants the light on the nightside to look really cool (some units got light and he want to see more).

Are you talking about this? That's already in the game, but there isn't much need to turn planets into disco balls (or is there?). The lighting engine looks really good when things explode and the fire makes the ground nearby glow.

This is what I thought you were referring to but rather than putting lights on units you might keep them stationary at apoint, creating a sort of streetlight, if you will, which lights up your base itself and not much else.
Here "cheap" means cheap in terms of metal/energy rather than "cheap" in terms of processing power

Yeah, mavor talked about having lights (Lightunits) on the dark side of the planet giving you a tactical advantage if the other player didn't use it too(obviously) or something i think (In a stream). He didn't really talk about how it was going to work, but since they have clearly stated they want the dark side of the moon to be as bright as it is now, it won't really be useful or look cool so they habe probably scraped that idea i guess. (Atleast not heard anything about it for a long while)
