I think for some reason every one of my buildings and units has an awkwardly bright glint at all times

Do you have shadows set to Off? Looks like they're still being lit while on the dark side of the planet.

Bit late to this one so I haven't read anyones comments so forgive me on that but I just wanted to say to the OP that yeah I would like an option to be able to make night time, actually night time, I've never been that enthusiactic about the current state of the night time cycles but I think a slider bar would be better then just having an option so you could scale the darkness to your liking and the pictures in the OP being the absolute darkest setting because you want to be able to see what you are doing still and that is just a tad too dark for me but I would love to see the effects pop out more. I think that is why the pictures the OP took look so good, all the effects just really pop out more because of how dark everything else is.

Someone make a Tron mod! If you could just make it blue and do that day and night that would be the awasomist

In response to the post below I was wondering if there was a value which provided control over the intensity of daylight?

I feel like Uber should take the same approach Rockstar did with GTA V. If a bug is AWESOME and doesn't break anything, leave it in.

Funny thing is there are already lights on buildings. You just can't see them because of the poor night lighting.
We were told we would get 'lit up bases' and dark nights - another broken promise it seems.

How is this provocative when it is the truth?
    It was promised, then dismissed.

Not exactly promised, though if it were, then it'd be alright.. it's very easy to change the night's darkness.

Well a lot of players didn't like it though, that's the main reason it was removed anyway. Personally for me the bug made nights much to dark, I couldn't tell which unit was what when zoomed in, and the bug back then also removed the background so night side being black combined with black background does not mix too well..

My screenshots use like 0.75 ambient occlusion for darkness compared to that bug's 0. I agree the bug was much too dark but nights could be darker and buildings' lights brighter and it would look great (in my opinion).

Also the poll in this thread shows most people liked that look.

I respect the Uber Art Team's vision - the game looks great.
But things like bigger terrain features, dark nights and thick forests/jungles are things which are going to be missed by the vast majority of people.

    ...so I've been thinking....

Is there any change the art team's decision could get overridden?

by changing the values in the planet files I don't get as good an effect as with intel HD graphics.

When the intel bug gets fixed, could we, in the slew, make nights awesomely dark again?

pretty please uber? it's 9 people out of ten here that would prefer to play PA that way.
