Done and done ^^ I should muck around and see what other happy accidents can be arranged xD

The suggestion was to have a slider for it, but ok. I guess it'll be modded in. Thank you for helping us :)

At least this one is brief enough to be manageable. The particle effects are ungodly!

Wow really? I'd be firing your art team, if they think it looks better the way it is. (current is lacking in contrast/dynamics/atmosphere) There would even be some awesome gameplay that would arise if you guys went this direction. Just need to tweak the lights on the units to cover a bit larger area.

Respectful disagreement on the grounds of GIANT NUCLEAR FLASH.

    EDIT:
Better and brighter version, right before the explosion happened.

Of course, being me I just had to see how this looked with a planet smash.
Over all I don't think it's that different, just a bit more lighting effects on the land.

Halleys make a nice light effect though

Kerbal Space Program has a massive problem when in the shade of a planet because you can't see ANYTHING. I don't want that problem in PA too.

KSP allows lights on your ships.

Sorry I have to put it so bluntly but that is a very poor decision.
All this talk about more contrast of day and night and how the bases are supposed to be a light fest on the dark side of a planet - and again we are let down.

I think having an option in the planet editor would be ideal, for ambient lighting or some such. Ie. you can set the universe light/darkness.

    Yeaaahhh, the art team.
To put in bluntly, the great design or atmosphere is not the reason anybody could play this game. xD
The bits of atmosphere you get is solely done by the great music.

Too bad. Not even a little bit? I can understand that you need to keep terrain and units clearly visible, but come on, current nights are barely different from daytime.
    I don't think it's a good idea - changes aestetics too much.

For a side by side. Spot the horizon in both pictures.

Here is the same battle, at night with Ambient Occlusion on/off:

To be sure, it looks awesome with Ambient off. However it just looks like a daytime battle, and we have those already.
Why not have twice the awesome and have both?

Not having a go here - just curious as to why the art team think dark nights wouldn't work.

To be clear - I don't think anyone is proposing completely black nights like we currently have. I think about 20% darker should still be reasonable and look a lot more awesome.

Because it makes the FOW shader invisible. Which is actually not an issue to me - I don't like the current FOW concept anyway so I don't care much.

The Fog of War shader? Around units or terrain?

Nevermind. Just saw that it's perfectly noticeable. Maybe even better than at stock "twilight".

it seems to be fairly simple to make darker nights - so i guess the art team already discussed what looks better in their opinion and came to the conclusion what we're facing today already long ago.

Still, its good somebody found by accident what looks way more awesome in my opinion, and it will be accessable to everybody.
