I agree WASD is really the most useful tool for the job.

I worry that creating two systems as you propose might cause confusion initially, but I could see it working - I mean heck, there are enough keys on the keyboard xD

Either way, so long as I can issue orders without the camera jolting, I'm happy.

I use the scroll click to move my screen, I think it suffices perfectly and even think it's the best of all the options, but this is just my opinion. :p

I do too, but that's for more precise stuff, not speed or smoothness.

Sorry, can you elaborate which one's "scroll click"? I probably used it at one point I just don't know which one is behind that name.

Sorry for double post, but I wanted to send him an alert.

How is no speedy? You can just zoom out, middle mouse click, and spin the planet then middle mouse click to stop it, or just hold click and drag, very fast, but certainly not smooth. :p

Does anyone know when Hotbuild will be released for this version of PA? I prefer those keybinds to the new ones in the game. I just find it easier to press a button 3 or 4 times rather than 2 different buttons. It also lets me to not have keybinds for certain things.

    More on topic.
AFAIK these are the ways to move the camera in PA
    - using the mouse against the edges of the screen
    - dragging the mouse
    - WASD
    - Arrow keys
    - zooming

Zooming is awful on spherical maps and the arrow keys are far away from the main keys and moving your hand that much and still hitting the buttons is hard. Using the mouse against the edges of the screen is just slow and imprecise. That basically leaves you with dragging the mouse and WASD.
I use WASD simply because I'm used to it and having my hand on those keys feels natural (FPS player). I could use WASD for other things Dragging the mouse is fine, but I find it really hard to get used to. Maybe if I could rebind it from the middle mouse button to something else it might be easier.

I want to try dragging the mouse some day, but WASD really is the best choice and with Hotbuild the keybinds shouldn't be that much of a problem. I'd even go as far as suggesting to implement a system like Hotbuild into vanilla PA.

Fair enough, it's good for jumping in and out and close tactical control, but if I want to look around then WASD has a more natural movement and is useful for a one-click planet rotation intel check.

I see what you're getting at. I did try that, but it didn't work for me, since I like to keep the mouse completely independent from camera control, as it let's me do other stuff such as select units and such while I pan around.

to avoid conflicts, just have a secondary button you hold down to use wasd. like shift or space or something. that way WASD can still be use for unit orders and building stuff.
