so first off, specs: i5 3570 ASUS GTX 650Ti (latest beta drivers) 8gb RAM now, here is the problem, with AO on, when you are on the dark side of the planet, it is pretty much impossible to see anything, it is pretty much pitch black. at first i thought it was intentional at first, but then when i tried to place down metal extractors, i couldn't see the outline of the metal extractor to see where i could put it down. also with planets with water, you an clearly see that land is pitch black, and where there is water. here are some screenshots with AO on: as you can see, the islands are black yet you can see the water, which is quite jarring. try find the commander in this picture.... hiding in plain sight! the same moon but zoomed out, to show how damn dark it is and for reference, this is what the planets look like with AO off, it looks normal before the galactic war update: as you can see, you can actually see in the dark now and now you can actually see the islands; they aren't pitch black anymore with AO off. so yeah, just letting you guys know if you are aware of the issue. i am guessing also it could be to do with the nvidia beta drivers, but i am not sure.
Just want to confirm that latest updates broken SAO on Nvidia or at least some of Nvidia graphics cards.
I just started having this problem with 66567 on my laptop. As stated, turning off ambient occlusions fixes it. I DID just update my nVidia drivers as well (337.88).
That does look kind of cool... I'm sure if it were just a little brighter and if buildings/units/frames were lit up it wouldn't be an issue
agreed, if we could see the actual features of the terrain it would be awesome, and it would make to cooler screenshots due to the awesome lighting effects.
