When will the unit cannon be added? We need a way to paratroop/storm controlled planets with many units that doesn't require 100s of transports or trying to impossibly build a teleport on the planet.

Unit cannon isn't a priority right now.

How comes its no longer a priority?

It was featured in the trailer just like bots and tanks...

    Because it isn't needed.
Bots and tanks are essential to the game, Unit Cannon isn't.
Especially since we can't move orbits yet.

Interesting, I can see how the unit cannon may slip, but its more odd to see features slipping that were stretch goals like Gas Giants, maybe water planets too, though not mentioned.

Maybe there is another newsletter that I have missed (just checking back) with the game that sets its strait on what stretch goals not being prioritized in 1.0, since those generated the funding for the existence of the game and such.

Honesltly I think it should be in the initial release solely because it was promised in the kickstarter trailer. I don't care if it delays the releace date. I feel that people will feel that they did not get what they payed for / backed if it is not there.

Well that would depend on how you look at it, I look at the way Orbital and Interplanetary are handled and I feel that they were shoehorned to work in ways that they wouldn't have to if we had the unit cannon, the Teleporter wouldn't have to be built from orbit and it wouldn't have to easily transport entire armies in seconds, you wouldn't need orbital units that act like spaceships.......

It can feel pretty weird if you look at things in the right context.

I think they should just compromise and let you "Garrison" a few troopers inside an orbital launcher. And the orbital launcher And then you choose a location and it shoots the droppod there - also like in the kickstarter trailer, when the 3 things go to the different asteroids. Make it look like that. Best of both worlds. Or like, let astreuses be able to "garrison" too and they will be chose as the drop pod and go automatically, all you do is path asteruses to the launcher and units to the launcher, and then set a rally point. I think this would be cool.

Yeah to some extent if you like watching your planet zoom round a planet super fast :p though i do want the feature back as it was awesome regardless : )

Yeah. Also, because when you design a game, you lay out thoughts, and when you create a game, you find out some of that stuff doesn't work like that.

At least, what was said, is that the unit cannon and some transports, they take a lot of work that game mechanics could take instead. Like galactic war, bugfixes, the menu and metagame and such. They want to prioritize what they work on.

In that reguard, I honestly want serverside more than unit cannon, and unit cannon is one of those things that would make a good TF2 style free update later.

As far as all stretched goals will be accomplished and released free of charge, I am totally fine with any (reasonable) timing Uber will decide to adopt for development.

Honestly I would not mind if there was a stable version then an endless beta version along side it (kinda like Skullgirls is now). In fact it would be just like we have it now in PA with a PTE and Stable just the stable would be "released".
