So I started an MP game. We get in the game, we all select a starting point, and thennnn... I select my Commander, annnnd, no UI. team mate says, "go into settings, see if you can fix it there." So I do, assuming he means to Restore Defaults, so I do that. Nothing is fixed. Today, after 3 new builds in the last week, STILL no UI. Reset the settings to Default again. Nothing fixed. What gives? I'm really pissed about this, hoping it's something I can deal with on the client side. Otherwise, I can't play. Thanks.
control-U turns off the UI, try that. otherwise tell us more about your situation : did you ever use any mods? are any on now? what OS and game version are you on? upload a dxdiag.txt file to your next reply run "dxdiag" from the windows menu and allow it to finish running the click "save".
I had used mods, previous to the last 3 builds, prior to 66567. (which I just got from Steam within the last few hours) I was not running the mods in any of my previous 4 attempts. (I also didn't know about key binds = Ctrl+U, causing the UI to go off. I've never used those key combos. ever. I'm on Winblows 7 (6.1 build) DxDiag attached. I will start the game and try the Ctrl+U command.
I didn't use any mods for the last 4 builds, including the current one 66567. ( can't remember what the previous build was, it was 65615 perhaps? I didn't use mods from then on.) I figured the mods wouldn't even work, and hand't even tried them. No mods were on in all of my last attempts to play the game. Also, changing settings didn't seem to take effect either.
I just started a game in the 66567 build. I STILL don't have a UI with my commander selected. I tried pressing Ctrl+U, nothing happened. I went into settings, Reset to Default. Went back to Commander, still nothing. How about creating a fix that just enables the UI regardless of all of the settings?
I tried the new version this evening. STILL no UI. NO mods. Can we get a fix that forces the UI panel to be ON all the time? The fix would just tell the game "Hey, I don't care what you have going on, you're going to show the UI/Build Panel ALL THE TIME. GO!"
Sometimes a bug can have cinematic mode enabled by default. Are you sure cinematic mode is set to off?
I checked it. I will do it again. It's repeatable, however I also am under the impression that game settings, once changed, are not being saved.
listen, it's just you with this problem so far, breathe out a bit, we're going to work through this. from what I can tell you don't have sufficient RAM, not only that but your graphic RAM is your ram too, making your available ram even lower then your 3.2Gig Coherent UI not being able to run could explain it. other than that everything looks to be in order, your graphics driver is up to date. you need to get a RAM upgrade on that laptop. EDIT : from what I gather you should have 6gigs of RAM, not 3 on that laptop. Alienware are being dicks about not respecting model number unity because I came across multiple different specs for the same model number, I'm quite convinced these are the right ones: http://www.theverge.com/products/m18x-r2/5537 "full specs" tab it says 6 Gigabytes of RAM not 3. One of your Ram bars is not properly inserted or is fried. It's astounding your system can run at all! you should power down and unplug immediately!
I just did it all again. The Settings, when changed in the Settings panel and tabs does not get saved. You'd think we'd have a fix for this as well? I'm going to uninstall the game and then re-download it.
Ummm, I have 16 GB available. I don't know where it's saying that I have less than that. That's totally BS. I have 32GB installed, but the OS only uses 16. Because I had to do a reinstall about a month ago because the SSD wasn't big enough to hold the OS (Because of all the Winblows updates) it grew too large and got dumped into the dual HD's that were in Raid 0. I learned all of this after doing the reinstall of the OS, finding out all too late that I needed the other disk that I thought I had but could not find... So, after putting it back in Raid 0, I had to put the OS onto the raid Disks, which doesn't matter and doesn't affect this situation. But, because I have the lesser version of the OS, the machine only uses 16 GB of RAM. So the RAM issue is NOT an issue. I can sit here and watch my RAM usage on Roccat Power Grid on my phone. Which I do often with this game to watch it use resources. (I'm a previous QA tester and have 3 titles to my credit, so I'm always testing things.)
woops, I totally missed a zero there. and there goes another model with the same model number! well then. go into C:\Users\tatsu\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\localstore\Local Storage and delete the contents of that folder. see if that fixes it.
