better quality and players and storage capability. Worser comments. Definitely an opinion of "better" or "worse".
I don't think the player has been getting better, at least not in terms of UI. Google, in their obsession with minimalism, have buried so many functions one click deeper. Why?!
Sometimes when I click a link to a certain time in a video it opens a new tab. Which is the most annoying thing ever. Besides everything that's wrong with the comments system.
Implying the comments system for YouTube was, in fact, ever decent. Implying that the problem is the system itself and not the content in it.
The system was decent. It wasn't perfect, but it worked. Some of the new features they implemented are pretty good. I love being able to use italics, I love being able to reply to comments from anywhere on youtube. But the way the comments are actually ordered and formatted is stupid and nowhere near as good as how it was.
Well firstly it defaults to "top comments" which appears to be a semi-random mess with the uploader's comments at the top. Of course you can switch it to "newest first" so it's not a big deal but it brings up the question of why can't I choose what the default is. Comments should be ordered as so: Uploader. Comment with most likes. Comment with second-most likes. Peasants. That makes sense, that worked. Now, when you reply to a comment you get +username. There is no way to view which comment someone is replying to. eg: Bob: The Joker is way cooler than the Green Goblin Larry: Dude wtf is wrong with you the Green Goblin has a freakin' HOVERBOARD and EXPLODING PUMPKIN BOMBS! Bob:+Ok good point but I think we can at least agree that Sandman is just crap. Larry:+Bob Yeah Sandman sucks. But Green Goblin master race. Ted:+Bob Dude you are so right. Does Ted prefer Joker over the Goblin or does he think Sandman is a crap character? Or both? We'll never know! Because there is no "in response to..." button. Another problem is that sometimes people will respond to the last comment in a thread by replying to the opening comment. So then it can be difficult to tell whether that person is replying to the opening comment or the last comment in that thread. It's just not as coherent as the previous system and that's the last thing we need when 80% of youtube comments are: "Go kill urself bekauz I f*ked ur fat mom u stupid reatard b*tch".
uhm, no. everything about it started to suck here goes. the old home page: I used to go there and the selection of videos I had there was so intelligent (or maybe you might call it baseline, I don't know and don't care : IT WAS WHAT I WANTED) never did it suggest a video "I" wouldn't be interested in, never did it suggest a video I'd already seen. every latest video of my subscribed channels were there and would stay there until I'd finally clicked on it or a month had passed. same with videos of an author I hadn't even subscribed to but that were part of a series I was obviously following. god that was handy! now? episode 3 of a series I've already seen, it's only there because I liked and favorited it or subscribed, video of stupid arseface that's only on my homepage because he paid for it and I'd never watch it even if I was paid to. also the selection is completely random and cycles with every refresh of the page, meaning even they don't think the vids from that selection were important to you. this is the worst part : VIDEOS THAT ARE FROM AN AUTHOR THAT I'VE DOWNVOTED. 2.the player: this is my second most upsetting point, Boy have they really been dicks there, it seems almost as though it's on purpose and they're experimenting how far they can twidle with your nerves before you decide to never use youtube again. now back when youtube wasn't a google partner the player didn't support over 1080p res and I do like the addition of superrior to 1080p res, here's all the things we lost in counterpart. bandwidth, if the player automatically goes to 1080p everytime you put it in fullscreen and then one good old day it doesn't do that anymore (on the same video! because, heck! you're only being suggested videos you've already seen!) and when you put it in 1080p and have to wait where that wasn't the case before, then it's safe to assume the quality of the service has gone down am I right? appart from this, now the youtube player has the infuriating habbit of lowering selected quality FOR YOU and even blocking off the higher qualities when the throughput is really not feeling too hot that day! but now let's get to the most annoying parts : the quality and notations button being moved into a sub-button. WHY? why why why why why people are used to it. VERY used to it. why add extra clicks? So that they can clearly count the time they're wasting because of it? that's the only reason I've been able to come up with for it. On this matter I think they're just toying with us, as some sort of nasty joke. The "large player" feature between fullscreen and small screen. this is something is use often, as on my second screen it goes edge to edge without locking the second screen in a fullsceen. very handy. used to memorize when you had this feature on. you'd click a video and i'd open up already in "large player" with suggested videos on the right and subscriptions menu on the left. (this is a very rencent change btw) NOW? nope memorization was a terrible idea. who could find this handy? let's also make sure to remove everything on the sides so there's a whole bunch of unused screen space and to make the transition between small screen lag alot because lag's what sells these days, right? Also let's add a whole bunch of white space on the main page and video player page just like facebook. mwuahaha! 3.the comment section: who likes seeing retard dropouts of either the beiberer or ke$ha breed in comment section? oo! oo! oo! me! meeeee! ....says the retard dropout from Google+... Greeeeeat! now we don't get to use general online culture to balance out the force by downvoting them into oblivion and putting our chosen cat herder to rule in the top comments section. which could be ANYONE by the way... just so long as your comment was intelligent or smart...or insightful ..or clever ....or bright ...did I mention intelligent? Now top comment reads "Fag" ....sometimes misspelled. thank you... wow... just freaking speechless.... oh and while you're at it makes all links okay why don't you. Go make the phishing ad spammer's day. I could go on but I've covered what's most important TO ME. Honestely I know you may have been born sometime yesterday, and I respect that, however you have NO IDEA, how much better things were before for youtube.
@Geers: I dislike ordering by likes, but I understand where you're coming from. For me, it was random before and it's random now, so I don't realy lose anything. (I dislike ordering by likes because popularity does not indicate quality) Also I think comment replies are ordered to the comment they're replying to now. I don't think that was the case, but I think it is the case now. Could be wrong. @tatsujb: holy moly, rant more. I can't begin to fathom how silly that post is. Calm down, post logically. Certainly it seems like you're massively overreacting. I've had no issues with video quality, and changing quality mid-stream works better than it ever used to. I have no idea when you were born, but I'm over 25 years old. Insulting people based on their age is . . . pretty childish, ironically
"Oh, you want to turn off those really annoying captions covering up the entire video? Looks like you're going to have to spend three seconds doing it and miss something important so you have to rewind." WHO THOUGHT THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA.
you got everything wrong. when did you get to decide i proffered an insult?? I didn't I'm not making fun of his age, i never used the world "old" which is usually the case for that. I'm basically saying he's been living under a rock and hasn't been using youtube nearly as much as I have these last 8 years. I'm 25. and youtube is only 9 years old. I think I know what I'm talking about and this isn't just some rant.
Since when are there more important things than video quality and storage ability on a video upload site? I'd love to go back to 15 minute video caps and mandatory low definition. Google may not have made those changes, but they continued the trend. I didn't know I was youtube famous. Where's my money?
jesus christ x'D I didn't even notice that was your name. I wasn't talking about you just to clarify.
