So, here I am not feeling like playing with other players(stirring up some nostalgia for Total Annihilation) and I'm playing on a system that i created and suddenly i lose connection to the server. Game that i just spent about 2 hours on is now gone. This isn't the first time it has happened either. I understand that you want everything connected to your Uber servers but honestly are you just going to make it so that only people with good internet connections can play your game? I know that the game isn't finished yet but I would HOPE that you would create some sort of offline game modes, along with a way to save your games with the AI(because obviously some RTS matches last a very long time). Total Annihilation had this feature and it was great. Are you really going to take a step backwards in game capability?

There are some very good reasons why the game needs to be online-only during the Early Access phase. The main one is that right now the game is still in testing and it is much easier for the developers to see problems if the error logs and game replays are all kept right on their server. They can also force people to update each time a patch comes out to keep us from all reporting problems on different versions of the game, since the problems being reported would most likely have been fixed already.

If your game went on for two hours and got a error message saying you lost your connection to the server, what that probably means is that something broke on the server and caused it to crash. They will be able to collect that information and use it to track down the problems that are leading to server crashes. It would help if you can describe exactly what was happening right before your game crashed so that they can look into it.

Offline modes and saves are coming!!
You'll even be able to rewind using the chronocam and restart your match from a point you choose ;)

I don't usually like doing this, but there is a wealth of information on the forums already surrounding this subject, so I don't feel guilty linking you to it.

The posters above me have summed it up nicely, but for more information, please see:

TL;DR, Uber have compelling reasons to keep PA online-only until they actually release it (remember, this is not a finished game).

Welcome to the forums, and PA I'm guessing.

Offline mode will be present in 1.0 of this game, at the moment everything is online for ease of access for Uber, so they can get information without being worried of client modifications. The server will be released at 1.0 when the game is released and so will offline mode. Just wait :D

Makes sense. Thank you for getting to this thread so quickly. I knew that the game must be connected to the servers for the devs to monitor the games for bugs and crashes and all of that, I was just unsure as to whether the released game would have an offline feature or not. You wouldn't happen to know where I would go to report the crash, would you?

You can start a thread in the bugs forum if you run into problems: https://forums.uberent.com/forums/gamma-issues-bugs.71/

If you have a replay id for it, posting that might help too. The game is very stable early on, but it seems like there are some crashes that happen once there's a lot going on.

If you're getting a 'disconnected from server' crash, Uber already automatically log them all, no need to report anything!

My goodness, how many times is this getting asked every week now?

As has been stated, there will be an offline mode after 1.0 release. Since the servers aren't optimized and Uber is trying to prevent piracy during the early beta of the game, there is no offline play – for now.

Please do a search before posting in accordance with the forum rules.

People who play the game realize there is no single player, they come on the forums, and ask a quick question. No big deal. :p

Except it's been answered over and over and over. It's against the forum rules to post duplicate questions – and it's against the forum rules for a reason.

Having lots of the same questions over and over degrades the quality of the forums and wastes the time of those that post.

We've had issues in the past, and they are starting to pop up again, where there's two, three, and four posts asking the same question on the front page. This degrades the quality of the discussion by fragmenting it.

Heck, even your point has been answered over and over by multiple people.

In short, it's against the forum rules, and it's against the rules for a very good reason.

Well to be fair people who just come straight from the game to the forums don't really think to search and don't really read the rules or know them by heart. It's just a simple thing, I don't mind answering them over and over at least... Though I think it'd probably make a lot of sense to make a sticky with the title of something like "OFFLINE MOD INFO" in big caps just to get the point across, haha! ;)

We had a FAQ sticky that prevented almost all of these duplicate post – but Uber unstickied it.
