    I like the T1 tank.
T2 tank could probably be a little different though, just looks like a bigger T1 tank with 2 guns.

Honestly I have no issue with the design of units and stuffs. I will surprise you, but I do like the graphic of the game a lot and I've no complains about it.

    Shocking, huh? ;)

Personally I find the general graphics of the game astounding, marvelous even.

but we're not talking about graphics here.

units, and unit design in particular are very small subsets of the general look of the game. They don't influence the general look so much and the point is not to change the graphical feel, but to give the units "character". ....do you see what I mean?

It doesn't have to be radically different.

That's a tank. It bears resemblance to modern tanks. But it doesn't look like a modern tank.

It is pointy at the front. In their defence, their tank is segmenty. Do you think that tank from the top will look like the MOST different of the 3? Honestly, they all 3 share the same resemblence and same variations...

I don't know what you're trying to say.

no not really, I think the cybran one is definitely more out of the ordinary.

I see tracks and a barrel. If you put colored cardboard decorative covers over the army tank, you could make it look like a single barrel cybran tank. Literally. The leveler btw is a better comparison, it is double barrel. What about the inferno?

It's a plane in plane mode that shoots aircraft, flies like a UFO, and can turn into a robot but it isn't a robot right now so that's not really a problem.

I think the issue is that some people, myself included, would like to see a more adventurous design for the units so they don't feel so standard. So when neutrino says it's easy to add unit diversity, that's not really the point. I don't want a more diverse group of lifeless units. I just kind of would like to see a little design risk, which probably just isn't something they can/will do considering the limitations of a small studio.

To me it's just mildly frustrating when the rest of the game is based around some incredible, over the top concepts (planet smashing, multiple orbiting battlefields, etc) and then when I drill down a little, it's just dinky Lego bots fighting it out ... it just doesn't mesh to me. It's like making a racing game, and you get two race cars, and the rest of the field is just whatever you'd see people commuting to work in every day. You'd be like "can we have more cool cars and maybe fewer minivans?" I just don't see any units in PA right now that are a joy to screw around with at the moment.

But whatever - I'm not too worried about it because the riskier unit stuff should be for mods mainly. The game engine itself is awesome even if the basic units aren't, and they seem to be making great progress on that. When the server is released, the units will come pouring in, and some will be really great and in time people won't be able to play the game without them.

    Edit: http://units.tauniverse.com/?p=all
Some great units, some crap, and a ton in between. But if a game with TA's limitations can end up with all those and more, I have very high hopes for what PA can accomplish in the long run. It's gonna be fun (SOOON).

    You misunderstood what he meant.
Let me rephrase it : PA is still in the core development phase with many incomplete basic features. Once this is at an acceptable stage or done, more engineering time will be devoted to make more complex unit behavior, weapons, etc.
The terms "Unit diversity" imply more adventurous unit design.

I hope that's right, but I think no matter what it'll work out over time. I'm just not really convinced that Uber wants to take the SupCom route where crazy units (not just the experimentals) were obviously a major design goal. Doesn't seem like they've ever been interested in that path at all.

Personally I'd rather see them work on gas/water/metal planets, improved performance, and enable the map makers. Cooler units will show up no matter what. The other stuff won't if Uber doesn't do it.

People like to talk about things they have seen or enjoyed before, it's called sharing experience.

It's how people communicate like people.

So no need to go so edgy that you cut the galactic plane there buddy.
