Found out that it works if I set the computer to not use the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M graphics card and use the integrated chip instead.
This build is worse than the previous build in terms of being Optimized and running smoothly. I'm sure it's been said before, and I'm sure the devs have already felt it. Just wanted to make sure they hear it from another person that it just feels clunky, and certainly not as smooth as the previous build. During MP much of the time players who share units on the same team can't move units. The player can give them instructions, there's sometimes an audible FX when the instruction is given, but the unit never moves. This is mostly a problem with Builder/Construction units. This does not always happen in every game, but most of the time. It is repeatable.
Haven't noticed any optimisation issues myself, though I didn't thoroughly test the previous patch. If anything, since particle effects were moved to the GPU, I've noticed a decent performance increase.
If you have a beefy CPU but a lower powered GPU, recent changes will have a negative impact in some cases. We are trying to offload what we can to the GPU, so we can have the CPU stay focused on the things it does better. But that means if you're running a pretty nice i5 processor for instance, but only running a 5 year old video card, you'll need to turn some of the graphics settings down, as the CPU is no longer handling the brunt of the effort for the rendering.
For me personally the performance has been improved in the latest build, but I have a (old) I7 and 680 gtx.
It's possible, but keep in mind. SLI is a teeny tiny fraction of the players out there, and in our engine's case, it's a significant amount of work. I expect we will get it, but it's going to be one of the last things we do in terms of version 1.0.
Yes? Kinda? That said, there's no reason not to support SLI, other than available engineer time. It should happen, I just wanted to make it clear that we have to prioritize large chunks of work like that so that we're focusing on the things that help/impact the most users still.
