I'm not sure what's going on here... but when I open the new launcher my computer , like the hardware itself, starts making some crazy noises I've never heard before. Not sure if I can call it a bug, but it's freakin me out. ADDITION: Aaand it gets weirder. If I click on the launcher like to drag it the noise instantly stops, but it starts again when I let go of the mouse button. F r e a k e d o u t.
Check your CPU usage. Is it at 100% continuously? It's most likely the fans running at full speed to keep things cool. This doesn't happen when playing PA itself or other games for that matter?
If it happened when I played other games I would not have said, "crazy noises I've never heard before." However, there is a spike in CPU usage on one of my four cores up to about 75% when the noise is going on, so it's probably due to a fan or something... but I've played some intense games and run my computer pretty hard and never heard anything like this before. When I click to drag the window the CPU usage on the one core drops to basically nill. Very, very odd.
there is something very strange going on with the launcher. I don't get weird noises but it gets all finicky on me with a jumpy mouse and high CPU usage on one core for awhile. Smooths out after a few seconds.
Having a similar issue here too. The GPU utilization goes to roundabout 95% and CPU usage is roughly 25% as long as the new launcher is running my fans are on. When you click on the PA logo and move around it drastically decreases the GPU utilization also fan becomes quieter. Win 7 64-bit, Intel i7 K875, ATI Radeon HD 5770. Graphics driver just updated.
well it is a super bleeding edge test environment. Gamma is the pre-release environment. I'd just be happy to see some bleeding edge stuff. You don't want Uber to start dividing their support resources. 'As long as it's playable' should be the rule for PTE stuff. Sounds like it's just the launcher, not the actual game. I haven't done the PTE stream yet, I'll give it a shot..
yeah the launcher is definitely not a program you should run for longer than necessary. May guess is it renders at unlimited fps @100% CPU/GPU single threaded. Just do not use that thing for anything but patches.
Your guess sounds reasonable. Maybe they wanted the Uberest launcher ever made? Lol. But seriously, we don't need 100% usage on a launcher. If my computer burns out BEFORE I play a game... well, that's a problem.
