?

Should a provisional 'due date' be shared, rather than the open ended 'when it is ready' approach

Timeframes is only for managers etc but its almost impossible to put time frames on game development if you want to make a good game.

All, thank you for your responses!

Fair points all round, I still think it would be nice to have a more concrete 'retail ready' date to look forward to but the majority don't seem to be as fussed as I am.

Ah well, I shall continue to check and hope!

Does that factor in post-release support? ;)

There is a point where the game works, no problems and no single missing thing that causes everything else not to work like there is a huge void (imagine removing the ant and not having that entire roll and then playing the game, obviously something is needed there)

That is a inclusive functioning game. Anything else is goodies and adjustment. When it works all its own, its finished, and nobody wants to put it on a store shelf more than Uber, they get like money for doing it or so I am led to believe. It is best to make sure its well enough not missing anything before then, and if a date is suggested it might be missing things by then and nobody wants to deal with unhappy waiters, and personally I don't want to make them mark up their calendars waiting for it just for it to be a wasted calendar. I waited for Portal2 and even it was delayed and disappointed me, took a lot of planning to try to squeeze a midnight release.

No, I meant announced. To my knowledge, we have not given an anticipated release date to either Amazon or Nordic.

Well, ok. I obviously have to trust you guys when you say that. Bizzarre the two sites report the same releasing date. They should have taken it from the same source, or copied from each other.

Either way, I also think that you should take all the time you need. Screw the ones who force you to rush in releasing an incomplete game. That benefits no one.

It could just be a placeholder of sorts.
(Although TBA would be a better one.)

Nordic has since updated their site. Couldn't find PA on Amazon.

I'm pretty sure this happens A LOT with game release dates from different outlets.

It's because people with rubbish internet connections can't play large games in till it's released. Im only on 2mb and i tell you it is horrible playing pa a lot the time. But even so the game its self is playable.. They have just let it down massively the online only for the time being which is the biggest bottleneck by far. Performance wise it is actually really really good on my machine though like most people.

Really? I think with the game being ready, the OP implies not the fact that he wants to see the game in a neat little box on a store shelf, but that the game will be in a balanced and more-or-less finished state, feature complete if you will, meaning that it can be played and enjoyed to its fullest. This means all (promised, planned etc.) features implemented, including the single player (offline) experience, units behaving in a certain way and not constantly changing etc.

I'm sure I don't need to explain this, do I?
