Like more detail in the units? I do feel that they have a 'blocky' look.

Indeed, there was only a hint that Meta was thinking about not streaming new builds any more, but I think most of the community agreed it was worth the moaning.

yes, the irony is not lost on me.

As Mark Twain once said (I hope I am quoting correctly here) "News of my death has been greatly exaggerated".

As I said in an other thread, we are likely too close to release for a new build. I would patiently wait for the end of May.

Pretty sure we will see a new build this week or the next. This has been stated by Meta when they where at PAX

I hope you have noticed that the devs themselves responded to this thread before you did.

It might be worth reading what they said ;)

    *called it*
PAX seems to take a lot more out of you guys than it seems on the surface. EAT BACON TO COMPENSATE.

Metabolical stated in another thread that a new build is due next week (with the obvious *pending we don't run into anything unexpected* caveat). Also there's a load of new graphics improvements in the pipe line we don't have yet (light instancing and ambient occlusion to name a few), so a new build is inbound before release :)

Every time a new build is published I feel like it's Christmast again. So it's not that I wouldn't like it.

But let's make a bit of math.

If the game has to be physically in the store (package with CD and stuffs) the 23rd of May (as well at Amazon, in fact), the final code has to be delivered to Nordic Games at least two weeks before. Which is the 9th of May, Friday. Today is the 17th of April.

If Uber is going to release a new build next week, it has to be around Tuesday/Wednesday, the 23rd/24th of April. It might happen but things are getting really tighten up on the timeline. From there Uber will have no longer than a couple of weeks to finalize the definitive build. Differences will be minimal.

And what is gonna happen if who can play the game already (backers and early access) will start bitching about the status of the game, specially regarding balance and units composition and variations? That could screw the official launch.

Also, does it make sense to release what basically is the final build two weeks before to deliver it to Nordic Games? Would Nordic Games be happy about? Just asking.

Another risk factor is piracy. You remember what happened to Half Life 2, right?

Therefore, I'm not pushing for a new update. I sincerely have no problem in waiting a month or so. The risk is too high and there would be no real benefit for the game.

Or... they might not be aiming for that deadline at all, who knows? ;)

We will know it very soon(tm) ;)

Either way, I'm really not in any rush to see a new update, neither version 1.0. It's not me pushing. I can wait way longer and still be very happy

Edit: Also, with the incoming Summer here in Scandinavia, and daylight of 20 hours a day, do you really think that I will have much time to play video games? :D

To answer a couple of questions:

    (1) We've got a new build in the works, and it is coming soon (TM). I don't like to get into the details of dates, but I am writing the copy for it. That's how close we are.

    (2) We haven't stopped doing livestreams. Generally speaking, we've had to lower the frequency of them because the work we're doing now is more complex and takes longer to get a solid end result. I anticipate us doing one in the very near future, however, provided the rest of the team can take the time to do it.

    (3) I wouldn't say we're quiet, either -- the entire team browses and talks on the forums. Look around, my man!

Hey, Uber Forum, when are you going to answer the phone call?

    ...because Mered4 caLLED IT!

I don't see how it WASNT obvious Pax was an area of time consumption for the devs. They also had what I believe was an experimental build there, at least a build with adjusted numbers, had to have been stable to make sure it looked good at Pax. So, as normal, they are demoing a game at pax, a very responsible decision, and we all knew it... so why do we have panic kneejerk threads and posts within a week of Pax despite knowing this?

I didn't. I just had a momentary lapse in judgement because I was thinking of my own troubles at the time.

Better now though. I'm back in third person mode :D

Aww I wish I had realized they had a experimental build at PAX, I would have liked to try it out!

Other than that I agree, PAX is a timesink, not a bad one but yeah it's going to slow down news for a bit.
