I'm actually posting on behalf of two of my friends. They have far better computers than I do (I'm actually on a 4 year old laptop) but they are apparently unable to see the deployment zones at the start of a game, or apparently the compass points.

They've read somewhere that other people had this problem some time ago, is there a list of things we could tinker with to see if we could fix it?

    Thanks.

It sounds like they have CINEMATIC MODE turn on in the settings. It should be off. You can find it under SETTINGS -> UI.

They really should put op a warning or make 'Cinematic UI' sound less cool :p

Are you kidding me? That was why all along?

Thank you so much for the response.

And yes they should certainly add a little description to the options. I know its Gamma, but still.

Yeah, it's meant for screen recording to make everything look pretty without icons, health bars and all that sort of stuff. Kind of like a movie experience. Hence it's called cinematic mode. :)

But I agree. It's rather confusing. The number of "bug reports" resulting from people having cinematic mode turned on is quite staggering.

Yep, I guess it's have to be removed from settings and added as hotkey instead.

But then we get that people accidentally press that key, forget which key it was and still report bugs :p

First then it's won't be applied after game restart.

Secondly it's might be unset (disabled) by default.

It just has to be REALLY obvious.

You know how normally selecting some weird stuff gives a warning message?

It just needs that warning message.

Although having it toggleable in game would be very handy.

    Hey Zaphod I'm a fan.

I have another small question actually, but I don't want to fill up the forum with any random questions I might have.

I love seeing the game with no strategic icons at times, just because I think it looks great when you make a radius 200 planet and have short, intense fights on it. I usually play with strategic icons on 'range dependent' but I'd rather have a hotkey that can turn them on or off. Is there one?

Well I use the cinematic hotkey in the hotbuild2 mod to do that but if you ask nicely Proeelert is great at making additions to hotbuild2.

Already in the works to add messaging to explain what Cinematic does and how it can interfere with gameplay. :)

Ah after playing a little more, I've discovered Ctrl+U to remove the UI. This does the job in regard to turning off the icons so I can 'admire' the scene. :)
