SIN used to be a top ranked player and Jester was high up, I beat both (SIN three times) and I'm ranked sub-par in FAF, what does that say?

the strategies and builds keep getting better, the balance is VERY different, so are the game mechanics with engie mod (no more assisting factories with a bilion engies), the t2 and t3 engies can build t2 and t3 factories of their tech straight up respectively.

Voodoo was N°1 in GPG ladder, now he gets whipped on a constant basis by Lu_Xun, Lu_Xun was far from top in GPGnet and Blackheart never even saw GPG.

You have your answer ; no they don't measure up at all.

comparing skill in an RTS between now and a few years ago is like comparing apples and oranges for multiple reasons. Balance changes and player adapt while constantly learning from each other.

That really applies to any game with a reasonable depth to it. If you compare Quake demos from 5 years ago with demos from now you'll see a massive difference in favour of the later demos.
