Hmm having looked at some of the other details on there- this rather looks like a modern remake of 'Dark Colony' (another French RTS game from back in the day). I wonder if these guys worked on that- the key difference compared to TA / SupCom type games is that Dark Colony was all about a single central city where all your construction and upgrades occurred. You expanded for control of resources however everything was built from you're central hub and the aim of the game was to destroy the opposing city. All the screen shots of this appear to function in the same way. It's a type of game that results in conflict with smaller groups of units that require micro, with a little bit of territory control thrown in, rather than the scale PA is looking at. It might look a bit SupCom but I'm guess it won't play anything like this type of game. It's nice to see another of the RTS sub genre games getting an update, I used to love Dark Colony.
not in the list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_Home_Interactive ahhh I don't think I't be my scene, sounds too similar to starcraft in end result. the city thing is also making me think of the supcom2 research tree.
Looks like garbage, or at least nothing new, and the name: Etherium. Christ. Something only a group of brainstorming morons could come up with or a teenager in his best years.
I looked up Dark Colony- the game dev was called 'GameTek' and went out of business just after releasing it in 1997. There's a good chance that a load of the devs from GameTek ended up at Focus Home Interactive (just like the TA devs ended up / formed Uber). The game just has too much of a Dark Colony look to it for it to be a coincidence.
I don't think we need to 'hope for a rival'- Uber are doing nicely with PA. Don't get me wrong, I'd love Chris Taylor to have a go at a proper sequel to TA with all the units, lore and everything- although I think it would be a pretty difficult thing to do as the TA faithful are a difficult lot to please it seams
been waiting to for some news to finally sprout out of this but they're really keeping whatever they're up to a secret. Sadly though, I am convinced that nothing CT is currently in a position to do will compare to PA. it'll be more "pro", more "slick" no doubt. That's not what Chris Taylor's fans know him for. They know him for the "can't get enough of that lag!", "it's too big!"that's what she said and "what have you done to my computer!?! it's completely fried!" in which, currently PA really has a 10-mile head start. I don't think at wargaming they have Devs that can tackle innovation and tech revolution, head-on.
Yeah I've been looking at this one- a ground based game in the Homeworld universe- could be fun. What I'd *really* like however is Homeworld 3....
saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame OMG was soooooo dissapointed when I found out it was ground-based, I was like buget? oh please, I know deep down that's the game they'd much rather make. (If it wasn't for those darn IPs always getting lost in the wild...)
I'm giving that website my award for the most undescriptive and unhelpful site of the month. I'm honestly not even sure that it's an RTS from that site. As a result we should probably just wait before giving it that "Next Gen" label that really belongs to PA.
This is exactly what I thougt. I have no clue what these guys whant to achieve with their game. So at least I am not excited about it.
I would say this Thread should be moved to the unrelated-topics sub forum, because this discussion have nothing to do with Plantetary Annihiltion, it's only talking about other upcoming RTS games.
Speaking of homeworld. They are making a remake - apparently completely remastered, not just new textures and shinyies. http://www.homeworldremastered.com/
Looks interesting but I wouldn't call it next gen, its not PA by any stretch of imagination when it comes to next gen RTS. Need to see gameplay before I decide on it though.
Yes known about that for awhile, really wanting to see more info on that... Hopefully at this years E3!
That's very unfair considering everything we've seen so far aside from the trailer were a few images and nobody here has touched it.
