Currently due to the uber cannon only having the ability to fire upon air units, gunships and bombers become the go to commander killers. I believe commanders should require variety of units to take down so you REALLY feel that YES! feeling of finishing one off. That way killing a commander is more about strategy than spamming gunships to the end and more about sending your full force to finish someone off and a awesome last stand that may or may not be successful. And I believe giving them a proper anti air uber cannon will sorta balance it out a little bit.
Ehh.....commanders use complex and extremely advanced technology that is inefficient for mass production, and so they are not. Their troops are refined and transformed into brutally efficient mechanisms of war, but commanders cannot be simply nano-lathed, as to why it would be worthwhile to secure a system to build the facility's to do so. Frankly, the commanders are as strong as the forces their wield, and so are infinitely strong as a result as long as you have forces in place. If you are having difficulty with air snipes, you need both intel and a mix of AA types to down them, even combining T1 static AA with T2 fighters can work wonders in most air battles, and the current T2 flak is very impressive.
I think he just meant that commanders feel like what they are suppose to feel giant war machines that just can be taken down with enought planning
...what? Anyway, commanders aren't supposed to feel powerful, much like the king in chess, it's the weakest piece, but it keeps you alive. You need to make sure it lives, even though it can barely defend itself.
Yes. Why not? It'd look pretty cool too, seeing a blue UBER-Cannon chasing down a bomber as it turns. I also think Commanders should have Flak. Gunship swarms make mince-metal out of exposed Commanders. Catapults Vs. Commanders are dodgy too. Anti-Missile Defences on Commanders might prevent them being (unavoidably) sniped by Catapults. Particularly important for low-radius planets with many players, as one or two Catapults end the game. Snipers also need to have deploy times and be slower shooting so that they can't wipe the floor with short-range units in large numbers and aren't used (by themselves) to micro-snipe Commanders.
I brought up the same topic in the balance discussion forum I personally think it should hit air units. Leave no layer unharmed by the uber cannon(except orbital lasers)
Weakest piece? Someone hasn't played chess. The Pawn is the weakest piece, it has a fixed/limited movement pattern. King can go anywhere it wants to go. On to the Topic... Personally I feel the commanders need to have a AA missiles added to them. The Uber Canon is just that... a Canon. You don't aim canons at fast moving aircraft. Just about every Commander model has what looks to be some sort of rocket/missile launcher on them anyways. Not to mention it just feels strange and wrong that the Commander doesn't have more AA abilities .
The Uber Cannon is not canon. It has not been mentioned in the lore. Note the spelling carefully, and don't point out that the game is canon, so the cannon is canon.
To specify why this anti air ubercannon/flak needs to be implemented is due to the fack that commanders should be taken down by a variety of forces not one unit, etc gunships. Currently air units are the best anti commander and I don't necessarily have a problem with them its just it feels weird that the commander has only one unit that's extremely good against it.
