do any of you remember a strategy game called Mechanized Assault and eXploration, M.A.X. from back in the days?

it had such an amazing atmosphere that is only now rivalled by Planetary Annihilation for me
it had a level of unit customization upgrades through research and gold upgrades
it was the daddy of dynamic zoom levels
it had amazing base building with connectors, roads and walls
it had air, land and sea
some really nice eco management with fuel, materials and gold
    it had so much....

However that game had some massive late game 100+ turn issues hurting gameplay a lot
and it's sequel M.A.X. 2 was a major disaster and I'm not sure who has the rights now
but would it be possible to have it as a remake in a MOD in either Real Time, or Turn Based?

I do remember! I had the impulse to get it a couple of days ago, because I so enjoyed the slow pace of the game and the alchemy between units. But damn, it's so old now.

When I proposed an AWACS for PA, my muse was in fact M.A.X.

Too bad that the lag middle-late game made impossible to finish a decent match :D

It would be awesome to mod it into PA.

You can still buy it on GOG.com. I also suppose that it became abandonware.

exactly! such a shame the source code is lost, there is a reboot project of it for multiplayer, but nothing for single player or anything with an AI yet last time I checked

it was one of the first games that made AI vs AI matches possible(which I love to analyse and just watch like a movie)
so I loved to just watch those games unfold
I even had this weird DEV version at times that had cheat menu, time acceleration and so on...

There were different mode to play. The simultaneous turn-based was my favorite. It was supposed to be played as Chess is since any single bit counted very much.

    awesome responses :)
I still play it too sometimes
and it wasn't as slow as turn based games are nowadays, it actually had a really decent pace depending on your play style, and because of it's graphical style and interface design, it was very easy to read an insane amount of information
it gave players choices, options, it allowed the player to choose a way to play the game with a whole bunch of different setting adjustments and game balancing choices
it allowed the gamer to choose what made it fun for them, instead of telling them what they should find to be fun

One of the greatest TBS in my book. If not the best.
As you said dudeinblack, it featured such a large panel of possibilities, i don't have any game in mind that did that, especially with such a simple core design.
What do you mean with "it's so old" carlorizzante ? I find it pretty decent visually even today (thanks to the iso), the real problem is the resolution. In fact i play from time to time with some people even now.
And it's not like there is much choice when you want to play to a TBS that do things well. :p
