    Hello,

what if bases had colored border lines like in this picture:

And what if you could see those lines from orbital view?

Wouldn't it help keeping overview of your enemies and the map?
And wouldn't it look awesome, and feel awesome?

I personally just like that territorial feeling, and having some visual feature to show me the moving battle lines.

And it would help noticing scouted enemy bases in orbital view, imho.
Maybe there could even be a mod which is showing you how many percent of which planet you own.

So what do you guys think?

    Greetings

In a 1v1, the top players try to spread their base out over the whole world. There wouldn't really be any way to show that if they expand really fast and then fill in the area they control later. Map control is pretty hard to define, if you do it right.

I suggested a similar thing, again.

The way I suggested it though you would actually be able to give orders based on them (eg. "attack base X from this point") and you would have to create them yourself rather then have them automatically be there for you.

I suggested something like drawing your own areas too, somewhere before... :D

    Here https://forums.uberent.com/threads/ui-suggestion-and-asteroid-belts.56043/

But I'm thinking about this more as seeing the borders of your empire, which would be awesome imo.

the area commands look like that if you overlap them. what if each structure simply emited a radis like that and you could let it join up.

I think every structure should show as map control, or territory. Units shouldn't.
Like every mex, every laser turret, every power plant etc. should radiate a bit "influence" which would increase your borders. This way you'd also notice quicker who the economical advantage has, and how the battle over the metal is going.

It would probably automatically make the player focus more on metal, because of that.

The problem with that though is that there isn't really a battle for metal at the moment.
Once you get about 4-6 clumps of metal, you're good till T2.
Once you upgrade the mexes to T2, you're good forever.

    I'd like to see this,

The system would simply be informational, and focused on the map control/player base. The control would be based on either the half the viewing range of base structures or the damage radius of defensive structures. Overlap of bases would be split down the middle or by the defenses (sight, range, etc) those players have near that overlap. To view an opponent's map control a player must scout that players base and see which buildings they have. Once spotted, the map control is still visible in fog of war (like the ghost buildings) but won't be updated as the opponent expands until you scout their structures/bases again. This should be a toggled view for the players, default would be off.

The system could also be restricted to spectators viewing the map. Would also be toggled, default off.

If that's how it would work, I'd really like to see this in game.

The devs might add it in if there is a proof of concept. A mod done in this style wouldn't bee too hard to do. And would be great for the current casting scene.

It's a shame that I have no modding skills.

I wonder if someone could modify the fog of war shader to give a slight team color tint.

Has the fog of war even changed from being lighting on units?

All I know is that there are files for fog of war shaders. I haven't played with them at all.

Wouldn't it better to use the system that shows the range of fire on the ground of units and defensive structures?

I personally would just make all metal extractors place a giant colored circle around them

But make it transparent, please. :)

Well I was thinking more of a shader to basically say "if in range of metal extractor by this much color this pixel by this player_color with a trasparency based on zoom (lower to the ground is 100% transparent, ie. no color)". From what I read in the docs though, and I've only skimmed it mind you, there's not much access to the graphics side just ui modding stuff.
