    I really like these ideas.

How about adding a scout bot too in a mix? It could have cloak or radar stealth. or it could even be advanced spy bot with both abilities.

Edit: I think scout boat should have a radar.

Scout bot (and better scout boat) would be awesome; each factory type should have a dirt cheap scout to crank out for cannon-fodder/cheap vision. Even short range radar is a pretty big advantage, so I'd rather not see it in T1; I think it would be the perfect specialization role for T2 scouts to have radar and/or other more unusual advantages as a form of distinction.

I have actually never used the scout boar before, the Firefly was always a better choice. I will have to test out the Sunfish before I can form my opinions on it.

makes T2 orbital radar absolutely useless

Really the currently proposed ranges satisfy me entirely though I do agree with you that the intel gathering is 100% stale right now.

that is because be don't have sticky blips or differentiated blips.

I always thought that orbital radar was for spying on an opponents base/planet and ground radar was for a more permanent solution to be used in your base.

How would you change the T2 Orbital Radar?

How about a directional radar? ie a non-circular radar that has longer range but can only look in one direction at a time. Having an auto rotate option would also give it a sort-of "ping". Thoughts?

Fixed non-circular radar would be interesting. I don´t know about rotation option. I have a little mixed opinion on it. It would go against no manual/toggle/micro policy, but I could live with it. Maybe there would be room for three kinds of radar. Circular small area radar like we have now, ping like medium radar and fixed non-circular long range radar.

    if it's either
    • same range as T2 land
    • without vision
then it's worthless compared to the other options you have.

I am pretty fine with how radars are now,
And I lean more toward the T2 radar being useless then T1 being useless.
I usually jump to advanced orbital radars and skip T2 radar, or build a T2 radar as backup for my T1 radars I already build earlyer in the game in case things go sour. T1 radar is so cheap I usually build one to scout the area's I'm expanding too.
Also losing a single T1 radar hurts less as losing T2 radar, the fallout in your intel grid is smaller :)
Not to mention T2 could be harder to reach in future releases if/when T1 combat returns.

No I am happy with the current radar features :)
