Today I found out that I had a beta key waiting in my mailbox for 5 months (oops) so I converted it to a Steam key and installed/downloaded it.
However, when I try to start the game, "pa.exe has stopped working".

I have the latest Nvidia drivers (9.18.13.3523 dated 21-march).

    The logfiles say:
    [19:50:52.000] INFO Log file C:\Users\Rolf\AppData\Local\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\log\PA-19-50-52.000.txt opened

    [19:50:52.187] INFO Upload limit reached
[19:50:52.187] INFO Uploader exited with exit code 0

I don't have any mods or anything, just the clean install. I've attached my DxDiag.

Any ideas on why it's not starting?

It's might be some Steam (or overlay) problem. First try to run game without Steam overlay:
Right click the game in your Library -> Select Properties -> On the General tab, uncheck the box next to Enable Steam Community In-Game

If this not help try to check non-Steam version:
1 - Link your UberNet and Steam accounts:
    https://uberent.com/user/linksteam
2 - Download Uber launcher and try to get game though it:

It doesn't work without the steam overlay either, but the non-steam version does work. Annoying though, it's now my only non-steam installed game. Oh well.

    Thanks for your help!

PS if anyone has any suggestions on how to make the steam version work, I'm all ears :)

Upload this crash dump file please:
    C:\Users\Rolf\AppData\Local\Temp\c442e1d9-417f-44a9-b7e2-0f9212e7fd59.dmp
Or new one when running though Steam. Tomorrow I'll ask dev to check it.

Though from my experience Nvidia+Steam problems aren't fixable, but usually disappear randomly.

I've put it in a zip, including a freshly generated one.

Are there any commandline switches to try for steam? Like -novideo -nointro or whatever, those always seem to help in the troubleshooting process :)

    Thanks!

Those won't change anything at all because you met Steam-only problem and game Steam/non-Steam functions are identical.

Ok little update on your crash dump (thanks for UberGaf who keep checking them).

    Crash occur in this DLL:
    Code:
    *C:\Program Files\amBX\Gaming FXGen\x64\LoadLibInterceptor.dll
As I understand it's some software for ambilight on TV, actually this one:
    https://www.ambx.com/showcase/ambx-gaming

Any idea why this only used when you run game though Steam?

Thank you for looking into it! It was indeed my ambx software that was causing the problem: I killed the ambx processes and then it started just fine.
I've had ambx since forever, I completely forget that it's non-standard stuff that can interfere with stuff like this.
FYI: ambx is indeed a sort of ambilight, it detects the sides of your screen and them emits that color of light. With the right games, it also blew wind in your face and shook your desk (with the rumble bar).
Supreme Commander was one of the flagship games for it: when you got nuked, the wind blew, the desk rumbled, and the lights flashed bright white :)
It's pretty cool, have a look:

No clue why it only triggers on Steam though.

Anyway, thanks a whole lot for solving this problem :D
