Poll: Vanishing Debris Vs. Obstrutive Piles

    Am I the only one who...
    • Would like building/unit wrecks to disintegrate and break up when shot?
    • Would like said debris to pile up and create obstructions?
    • Would like Combat Fabbers/Larger Units to clear/plough through said obstructive debris?
    • Would like Artillery/Nukes to send said obstructive debris flying in all directions/sweep out in a shock-wave?
    I know debris is only a first pass and we'll probably see things disintegrating - but the idea that debris can't be completely destroyed (unless Reclaimed/Vaporised by a Nuke is worth talking about).

    Performance issues could be avoided by having debris scale into different entities if enough amassed in a certain area. I.e. rather than having a heap of tiny individual debris, you'd have one big 'Trash heap entity' which appeared when enough little debris got close together, and which disintegrated into little debris the moment it was blown up. That way you're not rendering a load of individually piled up entities and their physics as they slip/stack on top of each other.
    Obviously there would need to be several different kinds of 'Trash heap entity', else we'd notice that these supposedly disparate trash heaps look identical.

    It would be a little weird to see a bunch of separate tank wrecks all of a sudden form into one giant wreck. The current wrecks look nice, but not very many are left behind after battles anymore because the unit HP is so low that most of the time they are over killed.

    could come later on ... i wonder if they add sinking animation to destroyd naval units and propper falldown animations to air ...

    Yeah obviously it would need to be done realistically lol. I was thinking more along the lines of really closely packed individual wrecks amalgamating into a trash heap, rather than a spread out debris field becoming a big blob.

    This has been talked about a lot whenever wreckage gets brought up, the issue is that wreckage is an active Gameplay element so you have to be careful with the kinds of things you do it it.

    I would like to see aircraft and orbital debris added in as well. It would be cool if downed aircraft peppered ground units with debris that did light damage. Orbital units would rain down meteor showers or circle the planet at high speed hitting units like missiles. With enough orbital combat, the orbital layer could get Kessler syndrome.
    This is probably a long shot and may never be added, but would add some cool effects to the game and will be a gameplay element.

    The thread about orbital dropships made me think about orbital wreckages. It would be really cool if these wreckages would fall from the orbit, a burning animation during the atmosphere re-entry. And when are on the ground, they can be reclaimed.
