I'd rather make the planet implode or something. That'd be more fun.

I can see it being a valid tactic. Say you have a system with 2 planets, you completely control one and have forces on the other. Build a halley on the enemies planet, send them to the sun - you wouldn't want to smash it into your planet, smashing it into the sun makes much more sense.
Hell, in systems with lots of halley'able planets you could just throw planets into the sun to remove the threat of their use if there are no valid targets.

Clearly we need another way of exploding planets that isn't Halleys.

What about a "Grey Goo" weapon somehow? That would be fun to watch.

Assuming you can keep the halleys protects from the start of construction, which would require at least as strong of a presence as your opponent, and if you have an EXTRA planet all to your self you should be able to just win outright.

Like I said, not very Practical.

Now that you can start on 2 planets it's not hard to imagine a standstill on one planet between teams and winning the other. Your tactic could simply be to rush a halley on one planet and focus on winning the other planet.
