I'm liking the way things are turning out. I'm just a bit worried that the backstab nerfs will make ganking a lot more effective.

Is there a release date yet? I haven't been tracking it very closely. Loved DS1, even if I almost destroyed a few controllers playing it.

Always felt like backstab was an awful feature and I wish it had never been put in the game at all tbh. Hope magic and blocking are not so ridiculously strong in pve, felt like dark souls was too easy if you knew what you were doing, I will get it and enjoy it regardless though obviously.

Heh, I think Namco said March next year. There was a beta network stress test like two weeks ago.
Yeah, backstab is mostly stupid in DS unless you're invading as a forest bro against a bunch of gankers :p, since you need the invincibility. I'm pretty sure I read that in DS2 you need to complete some sort of special attack in order to backstab. Yeah, magic is pretty powerful for pve since you can basically just stay at a distance, but it's pretty damn useless in pvp because the spells track pretty badly. Also, apparently drinking estus will take a lot longer in ds2.

Looks like I need to finish my level 1 playthrough soon then. I've been procrastinating ever since I killed that boss without a health bar in the fire place.

Generally speaking enemy and level design are what made the game hard, player mechanics never seemed to have much to do with it.

I hope they add a hard mode. I always felt like NG+ would be fun to play without the +.

Yeah, dark souls really isn't that hard when you know what you're doing. You can basically just run past all the enemies if you really wanted to :p

The AI in Dark Souls is anything but silly if you ask me, I've been "oh snap" a lot by how they react to certain situations.

Bumping because I finished my soul level 1 playthrough of Dark Souls and will now be able to play DS2 with no regrets.

I'm glad they seem to be taking out all the things that made dark souls feel cheap. Backstab invincibility and lolnocombat were kind of super duper cheapo.

Waiting on PC version. And if I see any spoilers in this thread that aren't obfuscated, I'll ban people. ;-)

I wish the PC release had come out at the same time.

By the time it hits PC there will be useful hints everywhere from people who played it already, and not barren hintless wastelands at the endgame. I know they'll be on different servers, but most stuff should be discovered by that point and the knowledgeable people will blow through it.

Maybe you want to take a look at XCOM: Enemy Unknown until it is released. Tough as hell on Ironman Classic or Impossible but fair. All my screw-up have been 100% my fault so far. The potential for honest, white-hot rage is immense.... =3
I love it because it's turn based and has a lot of depth when it comes to strategy and tactics. Many things are RNG-based but a good player can almost eliminate luck from the equation.

Oh, to be clear, it was never rage induced destruction of my controllers. I just play rather violently when I get into a game like that. Puts a lot of stress on the controllers. :) They were also original 2004 controllers that had up until DS1 weathered 10ish years of gaming.

Until PC DS2 comes out, I'm playing Diablo 3 for a while with my little free time. They're slowly improving it and I'm having fun with it, and the expansion has some good stuff in it. It's not quite up to Diablo 2 yet for me, but it's getting closer, and D2 remains one of my favorite "relax" games.

I've watched some DS1 and maybe an hour of DS2 gameplay on Youtube so far and I quite like the game but it looked like the PC controls of DS1 were sorely lacking. That's a no go for me. If a game doesn't work well with mouse/kb I won't touch it.

PC controls for DS1 were so unacceptably bad, I try and not think about it. :)

I bought the Dark Armor edition on PS3 since there won't be a physical Dark Armor edition for PC, just the huge limited edition.

I'm really bad at it. I'm the player that will keep ramming their head against a wall until it opens by force.

The PC controls are so much better when you don't use them.
