now you're just speaking to my inner child. IF we do that I'll go bonkers with it. But the first parts are more important, let's see if we can finish them first, then comes the candy.
I'm adding a lot of comments, but a big suggestion I'd make is to drop the idea of this being a passive tutorial. It should be an audio file which the player runs while DOING THINGS THEMSELF. Interactivity is key, passive tutorials do not work. Interactive tutorials for an inactive medium.
that's an interesting idea. shouldn't it be possible to mod in something that halts input, validates certain inputs and focuses the attention on elements??
Should be possible. It could even do things such as notice when your economy goes negative for the first time, at which point it will explain about what you need for improving the situation. Similarly it's possible to notice when units and buildings are built, so it can give you goals "build 3 mex and 1 power" and notice when you have done it, after which it can proceed to telling what factories and units to build. It could also notice it if you have stopped expanding and remind you about it. That might even be useful as a mod of its own. Maybe something to add to PA Mentor. =)
I'm at a crossroads here. I was in the mindset of making a video. In anycase the script works either way so I'll keep working on that.
Just a reminder that we can make the preliminary footage necessary to do the videos, but we can't do the final versions until the game actually is released - balance will change, features will be added/removed, etc. I think we should stick to the *let's storyboard it* phase for now.
well this game is constantly in movement. the tutorial which was an absolute necessity and for which people were starving for when it came out represents so many parts of the game that are no longer the way they were. and considering this particular game will continue to evolve in the same way post-release no tutorial will ever be official enough. It just has to be made more or less accepting that things will be changed but made still.
Mehhhhhhhhhh... I think you defeat the point if you wait that long. This isn't about making them a great player, it's about teaching them the core mechanics, which have remained pretty much unchanged for a long time.
Yes, I checked the tutorial. I think that it is unnecessary long at some points. I can try to edit some stuff and post my edited version here or at the end of the document at some point.
no let's get to it chop chop! all he has to do it edit the other parts not part 3, he's doing it on his own sheet so it doesn't matter.
Oh. Part 3 was the only part I have edited. But nvm then, I don't want to slow you guys down. I don't have enough dedication to put most of my free time into this.
I PM'd it to you but I put it here too Part 3 changes It's not finished but maybe you can still use it.
