I'll edit my post a bit with the added tips you made, and after giving the map some more play through.

Those are used during the random system/planet generation, which is the way most people play. So that will absolutely stay intact.
    This is something else.

Side note: Had bacon for lunch.

This is indeed a great idea, Scathis. If I will end up with anything close to be interesting I'll be glad to propose something.

Having a bit more control on the planet editor and the gas giants template, a reproduction of our Solar System would be a delicious add on.

You are surely already aware of the Share System mod, and I am confident that in future people will share pretty good System on the network. So looking forward to see that happening as well.

Height Range is something I'm going to control. It has a lot of dependencies and effects on lots of things.

Figured as much. But that brings up another issue. Does this mean no planets where the placement of brushes are important (such as canyons)? Since the placement and even the inclusion of brushes like a giant canyon are affected by height range. The planet I suggested had no canyons, so I figured it was fine, but sometimes they're important.

This thread really makes me wish I'd done more with the Random System Templates mod.
So biomeScale isn't necessary? I knew there was something funky about that property!

Take it as this: Did you want this feature to be in the game at some point and time?

Everything needs done eventually. This one's "eventually" hath cometh.

It is a good feature too, it is sort of mainstream and standardized, every RTS since TA and RA and C&C and Starcraft has had maplist.

This one isn't completely traditional, nonetheless having one is traditional. This game is still slightly different from other games maplist. Technically, there are pros. If you load a "maplist" system, you can get planet numbers to use in your own system, same numbers generate same planets and you can add different moons and such. There are also cons. A lot of these maps can break with changes in planet generator, although a lot of them can get better, but it is hit-and-miss. Also, atm metal distribution changes per patch and will break balance on maps, although metal distribution may be adjusted to be a completely balanced number despite the planet it is on, and if they manage to do that then may grace shine upon them.
I am not sure, but the generator for new planets in-game will generate by default with player chosen names. That is as much as they could promise. Players have already, via mods, bypassed default-list for the generator and instead fed it different lists, and players can already manually change the planet names, which is why this list has manual names.

Who knows. Uber can implement where these preloaded systems generate from the random planet name anew each time they generate and thus use the systems free of the maker's original planet names for the sake of using the kickstarter ones (and he stated he COULD change any systems submitted at any time). Either way, it isn't something that can be enforced without removing access to game customization. Love you Kickstarter Backers, I am one too, but I could care less if they sold exclusive swag like t-shirts and commander figures in their store, and as far as planet names I use the Star Trek mod although it loads the crummy names from Star Trek planet names.

Alright; figured I'd just write a new post for the system I made for the planet I mentioned earlier.
Main planet has a great setup for land+naval fighting, which is my favourite thing about it.
(pay no attention to my horrible eco management)

Planet names were determined by randomly slapping my keyboard until I got something that sounded interesting, then changing it a little to sound better.

I know you want to set height range yourself Scathis, but here's my recommended height ranges to get nice props and have interesting terrain / planetoid shapes:
    P1: 80
    P2: 70
    P3: 90
    P4: 50
    P5: 100

Feel free to post a new list in my thread for that mod. I admit I didn't spend enough time making each list, because there are 4 of them. I'm pretty sure that mod had over 150 names, but I don't remember exactly. It just seems like a lot less because there are four themes, each split into individual biome types. Some biomes only had two names.

    So give me better names!

I am not completely convinced that the moon is necessary, and if it is, I'm not better off with 2, but purely as a single planet system, this is excellent fun to play on.

    Code:
    Intended Number of Players: 2-4

    System Name: Snap
    Start Planet: Crackle

    Planet: Name: Crackle
    Planet: Mass: 10,0000
    Planet: Position X: 20407.6
    Planet: Position Y: -75.134
    Planet: Velocity X: -0.576268
    Planet: Velocity Y: 156.525
    Planet: Num Engines: 3
    Planet: Seed: 20130
    Planet: Radius: 210
    Planet: Height Range: 100
    Planet: WaterHeight: 36
    Planet: Temperature: 100
    Planet: Biome: Desert

    Moon: Name: Pop
    Moon: Mass: 1000
    Moon: Position X: 22391.3
    Moon: Position Y: 67.5273
    Moon: Velocity X: 11.9284
    Moon: Velocity Y: -1.32928
    Moon: Num Engines: 1
    Moon: Seed: 8465
    Moon: Radius: 200
    Moon: Height Range: 100
    Moon: WaterHeight: 0
    Moon: Temperature: 0
    Moon: Biome: Moon

Alternative Names: Fenix's Lair and Salami Headquarter

This almost always ends on just the first planet, its a 2vs2 or 1vs1 system and games usually last around 15-20 minutes, with combat starting in just 2-3 minutes. You dont really get stalemates here.

The teams always start on opposite sides of the planet from each other, with the crack on one side and the mountains on the other. The poles are usually free to traverse.

Oh, whoops, fixed that. And the lighting bug is purely in the editor, i get that on all moons from what i remember, it doesn't matter what the height is.

Also, i hope you dont mind if i steal your layout, do you? I just couldn't get the images to show up properly using the default image layouts, and the imgur viewers really very nice.
