-------------------------------Update! 12/04/2014: ----------------------------------------- Video Is coming along, I'm not running into issues, though if someone is good with making 3D slick looking text banner backrounds I'd be interested. However audio-side I'm running into hEEEuge difficulties. I got the PA music recorded and it's A-ok, however recording my own voice is an endeavor the likes of which I've never faced. I have a Ok-ish mic : a Plantonics foot mic which is standard 3.5mm jack and a Crap crap crap really really bad mic integrated to my Microsoft 1080p livecam which is usb and which likes to record with high volume anything that isn't voice and low volume anything that is. fortunately my Plantonics does the opposite unfortunately my creative sound blaster card hates it's guts for some reason and it will only be recognized on my motherboard's on-board audio port (this is only after tweaking the BIOS and the system settings a good while). Not only that but the lot of my recording software for recording voice from a mic won't accept this input source and the only program that does is premiere. I end up with a very low depth, as grainy as it gets recording even though even my onboard is capable of 2 channel, 24bit 192000Hz. after editing here's what I got : there's very little quality left, the crispiness can still be heard everytime I'm speaking and the volume is still really low. I have my mind set for changing audio and motherboard cards anyways as one is incompatible with linux and the other incompatible with my ram. I'm convinced the Plantonics isn't at fault here though I would consider getting a new one. Just realize that getting a new mic right now wouldn't fix anything as my audio card is very dense. I knew of my recording difficulty already, this is why I'd asked someone else do the voice, someone with good equipment. @wpmarshall if you read this I'd be very pleased if you could take some time off for this project. --------------------------------------end of 12/04/2014 Update------------------------------------- Here is the link to the GoogleDocs script for the tutorial that anyone can read and improove apon by editing freely : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ld3qG1skKK9au_WbV_cweZHrKQhEO5a98kKoDC51OQI/edit?usp=sharing going to be broken up into smaller separate parts to make short 3min videos. The project is meant to look as pro and as final as possible. I imagine something that looks and sounds slick I plan to have subtitles (following exactly what is being said, not a different language, if that was unclear) I also plan to have voice but this is not really so hard to do AND have it be PRO. here's how it goes : I do the video and voice and Uber music recording seperately this way I can play around with it, edit out clicks, blanks and possibly even transform my voice into a soothing woman's voice. possibly even robotize it, StarCraft style (anyone done the starcraft tutorial, both the 1 and 2?) then I add it back on top of the video in the right places. If we find a better voice then me that person can just do the voice recordings and send them to me, and I'll post-process them and put them in. Issues so far : voiceover is atrocious on my part, need help. the script has to be rewritten, especially the settings par, bloom isn't evn a setting anymore. plus the parts need to slimed down to last much less time. feel free to edit the script. Do we mention social at all? I want it to be more fun/jovial, currently the mood is a bit slow, perhaps we can allow for a less Dora the Explorer type tutorial, have a more informal attitude, give this some rhythm, energy, some of the speed you'll be having ingame, I dunno. Now working on the script/video/audio.
Pretty sure you can change it in the coherent but not the login bit. Is it important to your video to see you actually logging in? Think in the coherent it is under local storage. Not code just plain text. Change there and press f5. Away from my computer to give exact way.
Actually, yea I don't think I'll show in the login, but I will go through the main menu several times throughout the tutorial and having my name there kills it.
Sometimes the best solutions are the easiest. https://store.uberent.com/Account/MyAccount Just change your name to "Starcraft Sucks", make your video, and then change it back after.
lol now I feel like a dumbass. I wish for this to be a professional communal project this way Uber accepts it as an official tutorial. and replaces their own with it.
Prob not a good idea to name yourself über entertainment. I would prob ask for permission before making the video if I was you.
I've asked them. I'm hoping they will green light this. The people over at https://forums.uberent.com/threads/discuss-how-to-ease-beginners-into-pa.57246/ made clear the tutorial vid needed renovating. it's only to take some work off their back and provide community content that's more than just community content but becomes a helping hand for the developers. New issue and this is probably a known bug, but I hadn't come across it before. I currently have all mods off and files repatched: creating a system from a hosted game, saving it and exiting brings me back to the host lobby but the lobby is completely broken, with none of the text showing up and a fraction of the UI elements, and with no clickable areas and f5 doesn't fix this. Anyone else have this? I think I'll have to just cut out the glitch in the video and relaunch PA, host another and pick up from there. has anyone taken a look at the script? noone's brought any edits so far.
Hey, dude! We're really stoked you're putting together a tutorial series and we can't wait to see how it turns out. When we add our community pane(s) to the main menu, we're definitely open to featuring it. There's no need to brand it as Uber Entertainment. We want your content to be your content. I'm sure what you're coming up with is awesome, though!
100% agree. We are making it. It will show how dedicated we are to this game, and encourage folks to become more involved. I'll help when I have time. Which.....probably will be never. But if you catch me on TS, I can help.
SUGGESTIONS: Make 4 videos, in no particular order. Make it so they can be watched individually. Leave the player with their choice of what to watch. Videos: Settings and Optimizing PA for your Computer. Getting into the Fight: OR (Starting your first game): This video would detail how to use the system manager, the lobby interface, and the different options. In-game Interface and Concepts: This video will explain every little thing about the UI that we know of. All the tricks to fix crashes and bugs, how to set rally points, etc. This video might be longer than the others. Playing the game: Introduce the player to the economy system in PA, the combat system, WYSIWYG, etc. Start in the early game, emphasize the importance of expansion and aggressive scouting. A player coming out of this tutorial should be have the knowledge to play PA without major knowledge gaps. <-- This is important. It will lead to noobs climbing the learning curve faster, and get them winning more often. This will boost their confidence and keep them coming back. It will be the most important of the four, imho, and should be the most well polished. We'll need our best voice on this one. ---------------- That's my take on making it User Friendly and Professional.
My only suggestion for the moment is that the username be "DoesBradEvenLift" I think you should get Marshall to narrate it. He's got those smooth tutorial tones.
Great Ideas guys, keep 'em coming, and I will in retrospect, not use the name "uber entertainment" but I don't really know about the inside jokes guys, we want these tutorials to be taken seriously don't we? Anyways the WPmarshall idea is a great one and so is the idea of 4 free-choice vids. I wrote WP, and I'm going to touch up the script into something 4part-y. anyone wanna help there. I've not seen input so far.
Don't record until you've gone through like seven drafts. In fact you should record yourself doing it first and play it back, see how it flows. Once you think you have it you play it back to others, and if they like it you play it to people who are new to PA. If it works on them you then record the final version using Marshall. I'll take a look at the script in a bit.
