I'm not sure I follow you're title exactly (I'm probably just being thick!)...

    To clarify do you mean-

1: Changing the sun itself to other types of suns (e.g. pulsar, red dwarf and so on thus changing the lighting in the system etc)?

2: Replacing the sun with a planet that is playable (not sure what that'd do to the lighting?)

3: Making planets using the 'sun' biome to make multi sun systems?

the one im going for is number 2
2: Replacing the sun with a planet that is playable (not sure what that'd do to the lighting?)

to fix the lighting in one of those systems you would have a specialized moon using a mini version of the sun biome

Yeah, earth needs to be correctly depicted as the center of the universe.
This rebellious depiction of the sun in the center needs to stop. Now!

Also earth template planets have to be flat. Please fix.

This game already allows more realistic system setups. That caters to the people who complain that immersion is important and video games are realistic.

Now the game needs to allow the option to be less realistic. To cater for people who actually realize they are playing a video game and can discern it from reality (probably an ability demonstrating mental wellness tbh) and have actual imaginations.

Because limiting one or the other, and the people will just go back to playing Generals(realism) or StarCraft(farfetched)

Those poor guys should consult a doctor sooner rather than later! Since imaginations are not indicative of mental wellness, either, just saying...
Apart from that there is no reason to attack people for their opinion on what makes games enjoyable for them. Even if none are currently present.
Could we agree on options being great and opting-out of insulting other people being great, too? Thanks.
And Generals is not realistic just because of its pseudo-present-day setting - and neither is StarCraft far-fetched for the lack of it.

If you can get a moderator to threaten me, I'll stop. Otherwise, well, since you have no way to force me, your gonna have a bad time.

Seriously though, if there were options, it would only cater to people who want more liberty to edit a system. Without options, obviously it caters to realism because it locks the option as realistic (sun in center, smaller planets orbit big planets, the path of the orbits). My arguement, is options are good, and limiting them limits how fresh a game will feel over time which directly relates to migration of players.

In regards to your sarcastic comment, they plan to do just that, both with flat planet types & the replacement of the sun. The devs mention it in one of their previous videos, however, I'm too lazy to go & search for it for y'all.

    really? sounds... intriguing.

while we're getting freaky with the planets, how 'bout a Halo-type planet??

    Uh... Remove the sun?

It'd make everything completely dark. Which they're robots... they don't really need light...

    I dunno. Kinda... really weird.

Just curious, how do they not need light? To detect something, you pretty much require light--MAYBE sound.

To be fair... Wouldn't it be possible for this to form in space? I'm sure there's a system somewhere out there with no sun. But yeah, it'd be eternal night! Or you could have closer stars in the skybox. I can't wait for binary suns. *Cue wistful Star Wars music*

Because they're robots. They have headlights on them and even if they didn't, there's various other ways to detect what's going on, like sonar and stuff.

Radar XD I actually think a dark planet would look pretty awesome once we see more lighting effects. The energy plants already look frickin beautiful.

    Radar is light >_>
And I included sonar, but that also would require an atmosphere... which is something that kinda needs a sun to have--maybe I am mistaken. In fact, you really can't have a system without a sun. How would the planets orbit? Where would they be formed?

bleh, too much science for a game forum!

Also, radar is not light, it's sound
