True it's just a worm, but it is organic and bendy ;)

Does anyone else think the air fabbers look a little like ornithopters?

What if really heavy units can't move across the sand or move slower because they sink into it? Not letting them cross at all might be too unbalanced though. But Vanguards don't look like they'd do well on a giant pile of sand.

There's a possibility that someone, somewhere has already attempted a mod on Dune. Its possible, though not guaranteed that there are models already in existence for sandworms. Main question would be are they compatible with this Blender software? A long time ago I wrote story parts on a mod, didn't do much of the modding or anything, I designed maps and stuff. They took a lot of their models from other people, from unfinished work, kinda like a donation.

Don't know much about how Blender works, but does it use a collection of images, or is it able to animate the images itself with a special engine, like some animator software's do?

I would have said, as successful as the Bee Gees in a deep man voice competition with Darth Vader and Batman.
(after writing this I now wonder if people know who the Bee Gees are >.<)

My suggestion, search and steal, I mean borrow other peoples models, think most modders don't mind. Sure there out there already, Dune was popular enough, in fact there was a game called Dune and Dune 2, both of which contained animated Sandworms.

I have no idea how Blender works. Although now that I think about it I have a friend who does, he might be able to make a giant sandworm. We still need textures though, and we need to decide on exactly how large the sandworm should be.

    Bee Gees.

The site appears to be blenderartists. There is a guy there making Dune sandworms and Dune related stuff.

If your serious about this, it might be worth going onto that site and asking some of the modellers there if u can use there stuff, they might own a copy of planetary annihilation and be interested in cooperating with you. Just a thought.

Might be worth looking for other sites than have blender artists on them. Just checked through some of it, some of the posts are quite old, people may not be there anymore. I thought it would be something.

Can anyone here model/texture/program/anything else that's practically useful?

I think the sandworms should be wide enough to swallow a T1 factory at least. In the books they have a habit of swallowing spice miners so if you're silly enough to build a factory on sand, sending out all those nasty vibrations you should lose the whole thing.
