So, the game is starting to feel almost done

    But does everyone agree?

Personally, I think Dec/Jan put the game past the Half way point. and This new UI interface put the game at around.... Dare I say. 70% done.

What really feels missing to me is...

    • Galactic War
    • TA announcer voice overs
    • Unit Cannon
    • Cross layer units ( hover bot, land tank anti orbital unit, Speed boats, Orbital bombs.)[Personal ideas, just thinking a few more units is missing)
    • Finalization to Options menu and UI In-game and surface level.
    • Final Optimization and performance.

There might be more, or less depending on the forum user. I feel that the uber devs have stopped saying "we aren't at that point yet" and replaced it with "It won't make it into the release version". My only question is.

What is left? and how can we help finish the game?

I think the game might even release at the end of march or second half of April at the rate of these changes.

So with that said, I wonder what you guys think? Where is the game development wise?

I wouldn't expect the game to release so early since we still have a lot of balancing to do, especially with new units being added all the time. But the game does feel significantly farther along than it did before the Gamma Updates.

If you have 70% of a machine or artwork... something something... almost done?

I think may is the earliest we could see "final release." Probably later

I'd say they are nearly done getting the full core of the game in. The focus will be shifting more and more from putting in pieces to making those pieces all shiny.

However the polishing and tuning phase can take a significant amount of time and effort.

I guess the biggest problem with telling how "done" it is, is quantifying what is and is not in the game in order to give a percent, which is easier said than done.

    Multi planet starts are missing.
But since they're coming in gamma, I'm a happeh planet blower upper.

Not to mention, multi planets starts and a finalized UI feel like the final two puzzle pieces for the big, awesome and anticipated as HELL Galactic War.

The game has felt solid for a while on single planets.

I can't evaluate the current game state because my buddy hasn't played much since the gamma updates, but I'd be willing to bet it's still solid on single planets and perfectly payable as a normal RTS.

It'll never be finished in the "PA is finished" sense.

    Wooooooooooooooooo!

    Pizza party on launch day?

Oh wait. We all know they are aiming for PAX - or they would if they were smart. :D

I dont feel its done. It really lacks that polish in details and good optymalization. We need a lot of stuff to be done before we can call it "done". And more units, please :p

You've been here long enough to know that this is flat out awesome compared to the start of beta.

    :p

Even compared to start of alpha. But still, we need more "stuff" and more UI updates. It is awesome, for sure, and fun, but can get frustrating with little stuff.

For me, galactic war isn't important, and a voiced announcer isn't either. What is important to me is a fun orbital layer that is strongly related to the other layers, terrain verticality, as well as the improvements that have been announced for gamma. Right now once a game gets to the multi-planet stage the pace of the game drops down significantly even though I have near infinite eco, and the only interaction from orbital layer to terrestrial is transporting units and an orbital laser.

I agree with xanoxis. More units would add depth (but not too many) to the game both strategy and tactics wise. Still kind of missing amphibious tanks, which go underwater where they are invisible to the eye and radar, amphibious bots, which cross over the water surface quickly, mobile flak/AA, mobile radar and jammer, and various niche combat units. If we have one set of units or faction of units then we need some more to align with different playstyles.

    Voice announcer isn't important?!

    lies!!!

Sometimes, having that voice announcer in the background telling you your latest conquests can be quite exciting.

    Having someone say

    • "ASTEROID Armed, Ready to annihilate"
    • "Double kill"
    • "Thermonuclear Armageddon" (when you launch more then 4 nukes)
    • "Your Legion is under attack"
I played a lot of unreal tournament. And having the announcer saying little positive things here and there really added to the experience in my opinion.

The feature i'm really missing and i think is holding me back from playing more is the ability to name my games in the mp lobby for example "new players only" type stuff

for now, load a custom solar system that is named what you want your game to be listed as in the lobby.

    the current lobby lists;
    USERNAME: SOLAR SYSTEM NAME

so if you used a custom solar system named "new players only" your game would list in the lobby as
    Bsport: NEW PLAYERS ONLY
    Bsport and aevs like this.

If I were to give a percent I would say that it is almost 50% complete. There are a ton of final touches they need to do like:

    • Another pass on all the artwork on all planet types
    • Make full water planets
    • Many many more passes on orbital
    • Metal planet's laser
    • Gas giants
    • More explosion animations
    • Galactic war
    • More units
    • Orbital factory (if they decide to make it)
    • Orbital launcher animation and functionality overhaul
    • Unit cannon
    • Changing orbits
    • Halley positioning and in flight directioning.
    • More ways to transport units (orbital mass transports)
    • Different types of nuke launchers.
    • Low gravity unit transports (seen in kickstarter)
    • Asteroid belts
    • Multi sun systems (if they do it)
    • Planetary environments (if they do it)
    • And many many more I missed.
