Hey again, after 4 months. I decided I would install PA again to see if the lighting problem for me was fixed, but when I try to launch the game (from Steam), it has the common "pa.exe has stopped working" problem. I have roamed the internet trying a few fixes with no luck. Help would be appreciated dxdiag: http://www.sendspace.com/file/s6sdtw Thanks in advance.
You have two problems. Outdated OS: Code: Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.130318-1532) You don't have Service Pack 1 installed so go to Windows Update and get every update available. Other problem is outdated video drivers: Code: Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Driver Date/Size: 4/17/2010 00:10:26, 28160 bytes Unfortunately due to crappy AMD I can't give you link to drivers. Please wait for few hours and I'll post here link to how-to about updating them.
I installed system updates. Game starts and I can get into the game. Now my only issue (My original issue, 4 months ago) is the lighting again. DxDiag: http://www.sendspace.com/file/wtnl73 Screenshot: I have tried so many drivers. None have worked. I even tried Deskstop and drivers so old they didn't even support my 1080p resolution. I also followed the black screen tutorial and nothing has helped me. I've even done a fresh windows install.
Sorry that it's take so long, but here is how-to about updating your video drivers: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558749190925676183/ I pretty sure one of methods will work for you just fine.
This is still of no help. I have tried these methods already. I spent $90 on this game :/ I just don't understand why it's not working. This is the only game I have problems with.
in the game setting make sure Anti-Aliasing and HDR are off.... Can you re-post a DxDiag.txt, The DxDiag.txt in your second post about this issue still shows your using a driver from 2010... You need to uninstall the current catalyst driver through control panel, Then open device manager and uninstall the device there too to completely remove the driver. Then install this driver... http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/mobile?os=Windows 7 - 64 If you have any issues installing the driver let us know and we'll explain workarounds to install the driver by force (The "Have Disk" method)
The reason why you have issues with this game and not others games is because the developers are writing the game to use the most up to date openGL 3.0 functions that are only supported in drivers that nVidia, ATI and Intel have only just made in the past few months.
So, were you able to update your drivers? If you're still running 2010 drivers, the game will not be able to run. Even if you need to use the beta drivers, you need to have up to date drivers. Though Max's suggestions are well taken too. Turn down to low graphics settings and turn off HDR. Then slowly start to increase the settings until you see which ones are breaking it. Mind you, if your graphics drivers are from late 2013 or 2014, you should be fine, without futzing with settings too much.
Sorry, I'm originally didn't notice your have laptop with old AMD hybrid graphics: Code: Name: AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Device ID: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9712&SUBSYS_1440103C&REV_00\4&999DF46&0&2808 ... Name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Device ID: PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C1&SUBSYS_1440103C&REV_00\4&8B68C40&0&0010 You need to use those modified drivers: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=372799 It's only drivers confirmed as working for hardware you have. Strictly follow installation how-to and everything will work: http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4748301&postcount=3009
I have just bought the game today and am really disappointed, just really want to play it Can you guys give me any help? I have attached the dxdiag Edit: Sorry forgot to add the problem:') When I try to open the game from Steam most of the time it doesn't open, but when I do manage to open it the widnow pops up black but then a message pops up saying that PA.exe has stopped working. I have tried updating the drivers but it says they are already up to date.
@jmeigo sorry to tell you this but your graphics card does not support openGL 3.0, and this hardware will never run PA as it is 8 years old hardware
Hi, this is the same person just on a friends account, would you be able to recommend me a graphics card that would be suitable for my pc? Thank you for getting back to me so soon.
Sure but it depentd on your budget, but I won't recomend upgrading that hardware, and instead just going for a new system. However if upgrading is the only option the AMD R9 series offers some great value, with the 270 around 130€ or if you want cheaper the R7 260 around 100 are both great cards. And even if you buy a new system later they can survive for a few years
First of all you need to check what power supply your current PC have. It's might be like 250-300 watt that won't be enough for any proper graphics card. And unfortunately I don't think there is any reason to upgrade this PC because you can buy one better than this for not that much money. And yeah I personally recommend to stick to Nvidia graphics cards.
