Hey folks! Newbie to the forums here. Bought PA in the recent Steam Sale and I absolutely cannot play the game due to poor frame rate. My computer is getting old (In tech terms anyway) but I feel that it should be able to run the game at least in low settings and low resolution (I have actually tried running it in 1280 x 800 resolution and it still runs horrifically). So I now turn to you in the forums. My computer stats are listed below (And I can give more info about it if I didn't give enough). Is my computer capable of running the game and if so, what settings would you recommend to get the game playable? Also, I have seen a few times that the "Uber version" (Non Steam version) of the game seems to run better than the Steam version. Not sure if I can obtain that version without paying again though... If anyone knows how to do this I would like to give that a try. Thanks everyone!

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
    Installed RAM: 6 GB
    CPU: Intel Core i7 Q 740 @ 1.73GHz (8 CPUs), ~1.7GHz
GPU: Dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285M SLI Disabled

Edit: Uploaded dxdiag file and disabled SLI

    Welcome to the forum

First off love your avatar.:D Disable SLI the game runs worse with it on because it's not implemented yet. Can you please upload your dxdiag.txt and attach it here.

Game doesn't support SLI and it's can hurt performance a lot.

First make sure you use most recent drivers from Nvidia website.

Then you might try to force enable "Threaded Optimization" in Nvidia Control Panel. If this won't give you better performance just disable it.

If you already played at least one game you'll able to get non-Steam version here:
    https://store.uberent.com/Download/Install?titleId=4
Though it's barely affect performance on Nvidia GPU.

Ironically I started off playing the game with SLI turned off. It actually ran better for a little while after I turned it on. =P Thanks for the link by the way. Just trying everything I can to get the game running better so I figured I'd try the Non-Steam version just in case that helps

exactly how bad of framerates are you getting? and is it at the start or end of a game?

Your computer should have more than enough juice to play that on low, or even higher.

It's immediately after starting a game. Basically I start the game. Wait to let the planets load in and then try to play. Sometimes I get 15-20 FPS at the start of the game but it will quickly devolve into 10 FPS or below.

hmm, with that card I would expect you to get a lot higher than that, at least for the first hour or so until the number of units bogs it down as it does with everyone else.
Even on Uber settings I wouldn't expect it to be that low at game start.

Have you tried the non-steam version yet? steam used to cause horrid problems, not sure if it still does.

Thank you for confirming this! That's what I thought, so it's been really surprising me that it's been running so poorly. I was sure to upload the information to the UberProbe Performance thread. Perhaps it is a weird issue that is hardware specific... I don't know. Hopefully that information will help out the devs though.

I just tried out the non steam version and it is having the same issue.

Your drivers look fine. I would go ahead and upload UberProbe they will PM you if they need more information.

Update to this. Tried out the Uber version again after going through my computer and making sure NOTHING else was using resources and it is running much better. Also knocked down how many planets I had in the map I was using and that helped as well. Thank you for all the help everyone! Great forum community here. =)

glad to hear. Optimizations are far from complete so you should see vastly improved performance as things continue getting released.

A few notes, beware the picture in picture (the left little button on the bottom right of the game screen), it is very handy but will halve you fps.

really long game fps is going to get nasty, even on the most powerful of systems. That is something your just going to have to put up with for now.

Can't wait for optimization. Not to worry though. Just glad I am able to take part in the early access and contribute my opinions now.
