Hello -- Just purchased the game, and have been unable to launch it. Each time I try, I get the pa.exe has stopped working error. I have updated vid/audio drivers to their latest, but still no luck. I am a local admin on the computer, so I don't think it will be a permissions issue.I'm run. ning on a non-Steam install (don't have a Steam account). Anything anyone could suggest would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Can you please clarify how exactly you updated drivers for Intel HD4000? Did you get them from Intel website or used some Windows feature for that?

Also by default game is using integrated video card, did you configure drivers to run in on Nvidia graphics card?

If no please check this video how-to:

Then configure your drivers to run PA.exe on high performance Nvidia graphics card.

File you need should be located here:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Planetary Annihilation\PA\bin_x64\PA.exe

Thank you for the reply. I updated both the nVidia and Intel drivers via their websites (not HP's). I also did make the 3D changes in the video so it would run on the nVidia chipset but it didn't make a difference. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks again!

Here are the files requested. It wouldn't allow the .dmp file, so I added a .txt extension so it would upload.

    Thanks again for the help!

Thank you. It's most likely Coherent crash and before it's never affect players with mobile graphics cards. I just wonder is game crashes when you run on on integrated graphics (Intel HD4000) too?

Other thing you can try; open this directory:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Planetary Annihilation\PA\bin_x86\
Try to run PA.exe from here, it's 32-bit version and before it's usually work for people with crash like you have.

If 32-bit executable will work you possible will need to apply 4GB patch on it:
    http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
I'm not completely sure about current version, but before 32-bit builds only able to use 2GB RAM so those crash with out of memory most of time. If you apply patch it's will able to use 4GB RAM so it's will be good workaround for your problem.

I tried all you suggested, and still doing the same. I did the ntcore patch for the x86 pa.exe and it does the same. Setting to the integrated display adapter (Intel) didn't do anything either. No AV is installed, so that shouldn't be an issue either. I also tried running the exe under windows 7 (compatibility mode) and it does the same. I know we are running out of options, but would hate to give up... I miss the huge battles from TA, and now that I can blow up planets, just adds to the awesomeness!

So x86 PA.exe crash on startup too?
Can you please remove all old files from "log" directory and get me log and crash dump of 32-bit version?

Crash of 32-bit it's not something happen before so I'll ask somebody of devs check it.

Here you go. I changed the video settings back to normal for this crash on the x86 version. If you want one from the Intel video card, I can do that as well.

It's working now. I re-installed the 2010 DirectX runtime files and it's now working. I installed them prior to installing updated video drivers (trying to fix the directx missing dll error) based upon on articles I found here in the forum. I decided to try to install them again to see if it made a difference, and it did! Anyone else that is having the pa.exe error may want to try this as well. Hope it helps someone else.

@SXX -- Thank you for all your help. Hopefully this may help you help others.
