So faster is 1/3 of winning.

APM graph should be normalized into a carpal tunnel syndrome probability graph..

A logical conclusion to draw from the points made, but also incorrect :D

APM affects ingame performance, naturally. But a high APM does not necessarily correlate to being victorious. Nor does a low APM necessarily correlate to losing.

And no, it doesn't indicate competency or brainpower, as per my previous post.

In order to get to the next level for myself i set a few goals.

1: Learn the basis of the game
2: Learn the counters to everything
3: Learn 10+ strats that work well
4: Learn to process all the important things and less on the stuff that does not mean much
5: Learn to act fast and accordingly
6: Make new things up and get them down. Build your own style of play
7: Practice tons. then keep practicing
    8: Review all your loses
9: Play the higher level players and learn as much from them as possible
    10: Win

but often there is a relation between APM and skill in means of tactics or strategy. there is no doubt about that. and exceptions proove the rule

That's way better than my approach

    1: Try something
    2: Didn't work
    3: Panic
    4: Adopt fetal position

I'm a huge fan of Quitch's approach, personally.

Often there is a relation between the size of the Sun and the existence of aliens. There's no doubt about that.

You can't just say things and expect your words to be taken as fact. In the case of APM, you can win games with lower APM than other players. It's merely an aspect of a player's repetoire.

This has been referred to colloquially for some time as the Zaphod Limit.

This is true.... I've sent my APM through the roof with the spam at the beginning trick. Particularly spamming fabbers during the 30 seconds it takes the first one to build.

And that is reason i stopped playing Starcraft 2, apm != strategy, SC2 should be classified as RTAPM not RTS.
I hope that PA will never have optimal build order and other starcraft metagame stuff.

Starcraft does have some merits, and if it wasn't for the competitive scene being stuck in 1998 the kinks that makes it require APM could be worked out and you would have a quite respectable game.

You're never going to completely escape build order meta games.

It's really quite simple, by allowing each step of the way to offer valid choices in what to build where one choice is not better than the other, you avoid formularic builds and encourage creatively thinking about which things you actually need to build for your situation.

Build orders typically arise because there are wrong choices. It is a balance problem to make sure those choices aren't wrong.

While that's true, the first 3-5 buildings will always be similar because of the restrictions on early choices.

You can't build t2, you can't build orbital, and there's a required amount of sustainable eco you need to get up before you can seriously build.

Even if they make it so your eco starts off stable, there'll still be optimal builds before scouting goes up. Having things that are certainly better in the first 3 minutes makes it easier for things to be questionably good in the stages after that.

There is one thing that I do not understand. An APM of 600 equates to 10 actions per second or one action every 100 milliseconds. Is this even physically possible with a keyboard and mouse?

Try it. Just try clicking as fast as you can.

Imagine doing that for 30 minutes at a time, ten times a day, 4 days a week.

Now you know what it feels like to be a pro SC2 player. Just wait a few months for carpal tunnel to set in and you'll be set.

Yeah, i can't even click 10 times a second on a blank screen, doing that and having those clicks mean something would be even worse.
