Right, but it's logical progression in thought from "replace desktop with a laptop", because *everyone* knows that laptops are not superior to desktop machines in performance. The reasons laptops are better are mobility and electricity use. But it does explicitly say "replace desktop with a laptop", so it's kind of obvious that those two advantages are what is being considered? Respect what is being asked. He says "with a laptop", he probably means "with a laptop".

What I'm seeing here is someone who went to a car yard, to say "I need a car", and everyone is trying to persuade him to buy a moped because "it is better", with absolutely no consideration that a moped doesn't actually fulfill his original need?

Smaller laptops have a notable lack of graphics, have a smaller screen, and have a smaller/more compact keyboard. The difference in weight results in smaller laptops weighing less than a human newborn, while the larger laptops weigh about the same as a small 1 year old.

Not portable argument is weak. It's a nicely shaped object you can get plenty of leverage on, and is small enough to fit into a backpack, shoulder bag or briefcase. Average demographic for a video gamer is what, male, early to late teens, early to mid 20s? Weight of a large laptop is about 7kg, if that? More Weetbix for breakfast may be required

    That is a false statement.

I cannot count the number of times I've had to explain that to people with very simplified vocabulary and very elongated argumentation.

I had to go through the process of explaining that a smaller box that is just as crammed as the bigger box cannot possibly contain more things.

I have an i5 2500k, slightly overclocked with 16GB RAM and an Asus (AMD) 6850 1GB. I strongly suspect that the main bottleneck for me is the video card, but I'm unsure if it's purely a RAM thing or whether the raw processing power isn't enough. Ctrl-P tells me it's rendering over 7m triangles at its chuggiest, so processing power is going to be an issue but I would bet on the VRAM being the bigger bottleneck.

If money isn't a problem and you are after a laptop might I recommend the Alienware laptop.

I'm using an Alienware M17xr3 as my gaming machine and it hasn't skipped a beat playing PA or any other games on the market. In my laptop I have the GeForce GTX 580M with 8GB ram and I7-2760QM processor.

I used to be in the laptops suck, you should build your own PC because it's the only way to go camp. But since my old desktop contracted "LANitist" (all components loose from too many lan parties) and changed to my laptop I've never looked back.

    it's a given.

and no it's probably not only Vram that is the problem. Amd-oriented optimizations will come.
