I was wondering if the uber team plans on adding a first person view mode where you can assume control over one unit, and fire and aim at your will.

Because that one dox is just going to do so much damage. /sarcasm

It would be a waste of resources, first by Uber in implementing it and then by the player by using it and wasting their attention on it instead of macroing.

I never stated it had to be NOW it's just one of those little features at the finish.
It would add a great sense of autonomy and also maybe enhance gameplay a bit.
But just not a primary priority one their agenda.

it's a neat idea - reminds me of the idea behind C&C Renegade. I don't really think Uber's gonna take us there with PA though.

Whenever they implement it, it wouldn't change the fact that it would be a waste of resources for everyone involved, both in the usage of it and in the making of it.

Seriously It's one of features I'm always want to see long time ago, but from my experience with in Spring RTS it's will only work well if developers spend lot of time on it. You can run any Spring game and use FPS camera, but it's not actually fun or useful for player/developers.

It's not enough to just implement some camera and add direct control. Game should looks well from 1st person and even SupCom didn't and with PA it's will be even worse because of spherical maps where units shot over horizon and you'll barely able to control most of them.

I would love this. It's basically useless, of course. But are you telling me you played SupCom and Forged Alliance without ever once wishing that you could plop into the pilot seat of that Monkeylord or that Fatboy? It's not something the devs should concentrate on but it's a great idea for a mod.

If you could spectate from units PoV like that in replays it would be cool.

I think this would be really be cool for matches or if someone tries to make machinima in PA. You could get so many cool shots in the middle of armies or walking through giant bases. This might be a mod if uber gives us modders camera hooks.

The camera's more versatile than you think.

Sure you can't actually control a single unit like an FPS (but why would you want to more than once?) but you can zoom in pretty close and get some sweet angles. If there was a camera tracking option you could get some epic close up footage, more or less from bot POV.

Yea, but it doesn't even have to be controlling to bot.
It could just be a different pov.
It would be cool, but, has anyone ever used google earth? They have a ground level mode (Not street view) that allows your POV to rest directly on the ground. It's the best with the 3d cities in florida.

That's what I'm saying, you can get fairly close to this now. Can't remember what the free camera mode is, but it definitely exists. Have a play, I bet you can get closer in and further down than you think.

Disclaimer: all information gathered from looking at the 'soon' commander meme that surfaces sometimes. I have no actually knowledge of what I'm talking about.

It's been mentioned here on the forums, and is a gimmick that would have no place in viable gameplay.

If you're controlling one unit, you've already lost because you need to be controlling hundreds of units at once, attacking from multiple places at once, and expanding – all at the same time.

Not only that, but units don't last long enough for controlling one unit to make a difference.

Something that would be fun for 30 seconds and then never used again is not worth the developer's time.

I would rather them spend that time on adding new units, features, and performance improvements.

I'm pretty happy saying "No" to this. It's mod based territory but will never be done by the developers directly.

It was actually implemented in spring based games. Although utterly hilarious to take control of a Bertha, and manually shoot the enemy commander in the face, it was also completely useless.

I'm going to suggest that this really isn't worth the devs time.

Totally agree here. In the vanilla game, first person isn't useful at all.

I can think of a number of mods that could benefit a lot from first person views though. I might even make one that limits the players to first person views, which I think would be absolutely hilarious.
