Idea for pings

    Pings are very easy to miss.

    How about the visibility of the ping and the volume of the sound it makes being a factor of the length of time the mouse button is held down?

    ie, if the players are in the middle of an intense firefight and are all looking at the same area, the currently implemented small ping is sufficient for rapidly signalling. But if each one is looking at a different zone, then the ping goes unnoticed if it is too small.

    For example, if the endgame hinges on getting off a final nuke on the last commander, but the players have no idea which planet it is on, until someone gets a lucky, but fleeting, sighting on one of the moons, then all the player has to do is send of a massive ping by holding down the mouse for ~2 seconds, which everyone sees even if the are looking at different celestial bodies (say it looks like a towering beam of light and the moon in question flashes in the side panel).


    ( furthermore, how about the ability to draw lines and paint areas in a later update? )

    I like the draw idea... that's very slick.

    I'm pretty sure the ping includes an alert the receiver can click on to take his view directly to it. I'm not opposed to a longer ping getting a higher priority and higher visibility, it could be cool, but we wouldn't want to go over the top. I play with my 11 year old son and Griefed by Ping comes to mind.

    how about a ping cooldown?

    like, small pings don't overcharge the ping bar, but the largest pings require a ~5 second cooldown time

    Pings don't show up in the notifications, tested this just a little while ago with a friend... It's needed, ASAP

    I want a louder noise and a massive light column extending into the atmosphere to make it absolutely clear.

    Put pings in the notification space, support more than one kind of ping (attack, help, notice), have a sound for each type and just use a variation on the spawn graphic because that thing is plenty noticeable.

    They need to last longer too. It is way too easy to miss it. Column of light would be epicballs

    pings should make notifications just like destroyed buildings and have a border flash to show that one is present somewhere on the map like in faf.

    I agree that pings need some work. They are very hard to see, and they use the same sound effect as a unit dying. First time a friend pinged me I jumped around my bases looking for the attacker, and totally missed the ping.

    Just thinking maybe do pings kinda like in C&C generals. You select an area and it signals there, and it persists until someone deletes it. You can also select them and add notes to them.
