Planetary Shields

    I thought about shields.
    How could we use shields without SupCom shields.

    Solution: Planetary shields with 2 possibilites to build.
    1. A big planetary shield generator(very big building) that generates a shield but you need to build towers to enlarge the shield until you shield the whole planet.
    2. A shield satellite like in Sins of a Solar empire that shields a certain part of the planet

    I must say no, it's already hard enough to invade small planets from another planet.

    Uber has been steering away from Shields in most/all forms for some very good reasons, maybe once PA has released and matured some Uber can look into Shield implementations that aren't damaging to the gameplay but until then I hope they continue to steer clear.

    Shields ruined Supcom, go play a game with friends with agreement to not do shields.. makes game way more fluid and interesting.. recon and dispatching at range threats become imporant if you cant just sit behind a sheild wall and go.. o you built some arty.. thats nice..

    Its something i dont want to see in the main game for PA.

    What's the point?

    If such a shield were added, then there'd need to be other additions to break the shields and now we have a bunch of added game complexity for no reason.

    I'm opposed.

    Shields usually are modelef with transparent texture, that alone kind of halves fps. If they are introduced with weapons to break them it will become kind of mandatory, (just like nuke and anti nuke situation now). Would you really lose half fps, get more headache just for game to be bit more cool?

    Nah, shields are just fine in FA. Sounds like the actual "problem" here is that you guys just turtle and don't play the game right way. FA sucks if you turtle and don't know how to play the game, that's true.

    I don't mean shields are wrong way to play. Just saying that maybe stuartelliott doesn't know how to counter them properly. After all, shields are small and the map is big. If you shield your main base that has 4 extracors, so what? 95% of the map is still not shielded. You are not going to win because you shielded 4 extractors in your main base.

    You would have a point........except that you can keep building shield to cover you entire main base and every fire as and Mass clusters of sufficient density instead of just your started 4 mass spots.

    I still feel like shields are proposed because people think it's fun to play or something we need, rather than a solution to a problem.

    As usual, talking about bubble shields.

    I think I might make a mod that add directional shields. None of this bubble bullshit. Build it. Give it a direction to face, and let it block things from that direction.

    Depending on your definition of shield, units may be able to drive/walk/fly through them.

    Walls on the other hand...
