So i've played for 6 hours against AI now but I just don't understand how I am supposed to remember where everything is. For example when I build 1 worker from something I sometimes just lose him and dont see an idle workers hotkey. Also when you get attacked I don't hear any message or see any notification so sometimes I would get back to something and it would just be gone because it had no idea it was being attacked.

Beta is beta (especially the UI)

Try the 'F' key to cycle through your idle workers (fabbers). There are other hotkeys too, if you check the Options menu.

Uber is keenly aware that there's a lot of work left to be done on the UI; It needs a total overhaul and they know it. Sorry I can't help you more but take comfort that we're all in the same boat with you.

UI gets overhaul soon. This game big selling feature is scope of war, masses of units and multiple planets. Give it some time to adjust. And don't worry single builder here does not matter much, come back when you lose blob of 500 to one well placed nuke. So far this game is best played in teams of 2-3, then everybody can focus on his tiny tasks.

    Welcome Aseliot,

The game is still in development so improvements are coming. Everything is kind of vague can you be more specific? Would make it easier to help you.;)

I usually take any idle workers I find and send them to a single spot that is easy to remember. That way I can always go there to find some if I need them. Usually that's next to my worker production factories.

Also, even as a dev, there's a lot to learn. Making use of Camera stored positions drastically improves my ability to keep track of all the things going on. Default mappings are Shift+#1-9 and recall is Alt+#1-9..

This seriously helps my ability to quickly go places i care about, especially when dealing with multiple planets.

sorry for the quick hijack here, but this is the first I've seen this directly addressed; Garat - do you know if the bug of these camera position mappings not working in Linux is going to be fixed w/ the next update? I'd LOVE to be able to take advantage of them... would help sooooooooooooooo much!

I remember that the devs said that one of them had a very early revision of the multiple window / mini map working, but it wasn't anywhere near ready to demo.
It should be a bit easier once we get our hands on that, but in the mean time make very heavy use of the camera stored positions.

I agree, an ability to mark certain camera positions is very useful. I would even say that it makes possible playing on multiple planet systems. By the way, you can also recall stored position by tapping a mapped number twice :)

there is both a visual and audio cue when you loose a unit or structure, plus you can click on the visual cue to be taken to where it happened and use chronocam to see it happen again.

also you may want to try the pole lock option.
that said there are UI elements still missing in my opinion to give you a better overview.

Good idea. I should improve my camera skills.

So far I use 0 for the main base, centered on it (basically where I start), and 9 for the second base, often where most of the assets are (most of the time a Moon).

Then I use 1, 2 and 3 for the target areas I designed for great impact attacks, likely in preparation for a Nukes' launch. Sometimes I use 7 and 8 for the Nuke Launching sites, so to quickly focus on them when needed.

I rarely use more than that.

How do you do, guys? Any better method?

ps. Garat, a note to the Devs. In multiplayer the key for the Commander actually selects all the Commander in the team. Often reason of discomfort across team mates. Perhaps a player should be able to control exclusively his own Commander, or the key for it may be linked to his own Commander?

Something that hasn't been mentioned are UI mods. You can customise the UI in various ways to your liking, which can help with comprehension. Some recommendations UI-wise:
    • Alerts Manager: Filter for alerts, so you are alerted to things you want to be alerted about
    • Better System View: See metal spot count next to planets in planet list
    • Economy Efficiency: Makes the top eco bar a lot better. There is also another mod in the works to change the bar, which you may prefer (don't think it's ready yet)
    • Commander Health Display: Shows the commanders health in the UI
    • Custom Build Bar: De-clutters the default build tab. All existing tabs are still there, this just adds another one with only commonly used buildings

There's other good mods, but they are less related to your question. Link to PAMM, a program to manage PA mods: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-pa-mod-manager-v3-1-2.50726/

There's also a mod that adds in game UI for the camera anchors, which I find much easier than using a keyboard to set them. Just have a soft through the list of mods, there're a lot of helpful improvements out there already.

They work fine for me under KDE4. I do have the windows manager ignore every global system shortcut for the PA window though, maybe that is the problem?

Also, there is a mod around that places those shortcuts as clickable buttons. Anchor Buttons it's called.
