Internal Playtest - Build coming, exploding naval crash 2014-02-10

    Confirmed changes:

    - Was a Release Candidate (60801), but naval explosions crash the game.
    - Transports said to be fixed, but not seen before crash.
    - Using new PA launcher
    - Meta thought naval built faster, but the numbers looked the same.
    - Meta thought naval range was longer.

    Stuff begin worked on:

    - Picture in Picture. Things Meta would like, but may not work:
    - windows should work with saved locations
    - show opposite side of planet
    - track unit in window
    - Sim performance
    - Integrating Twitch.tv chat into game

    Also, some discussion of VR technology in general, not in any way related to PA.

    There may be another stream today.

    We're all using the new PA launcher internally at Uber. That does not mean it will be out in the public with the next build. Just to be clear. :)

    This has given me the itch to sneak into your office and copy the launcher onto my handy CD.

    but I have itch cream for that. ;)

    You didn't miss much Brian. Lots of looking at lobby screens or desktop. Hope the bug gets fixed soon so we can get some more hot internal playtest action! Or, you know...*whispers* new build...

    It's apparently a tricky one to get the engine to support and other things are being prioritised atm.

    I find this perplexing - the priority, that is. Isn't the Unit Cannon an important invasion tool required to make interplanetary gameplay work?

    Yep. So implementing a broken unit into the game would make things a lot worse :(

    It really is a hard thing to program. You arent just shooting bullets - you are shooting objects that have properties and methods that let them move and fight. Its hard to get more than one of these guys into a unit cannon shell and stay there, apparantly. From a coding perspective/

    I've stated my confusion repeatedly with Uber's seeming difficulty with multi-unit transports; a "black box" approach that stores the cargo units' variables (unit type, HP remaining) and deletes them only to respawn them later seems perfectly fine. There must be some other considerations at play, of course, or we wouldn't have a problem.

    Many of the team have implement such things before, and if they say it's hard (not impossible) then I believe them, this stuff will come but it doesn't happen without out at least some effort and Uber don't have infinite resources so some features will get implemented before others.

    So I'm equally confused by your confusion that your particular hot-button issue isn't being worked on right now.

    Sorry, I forgot to mention the other stickler: the entire game is WYSIWYG. You have to be able to see the units in the transports. I think this is the main issue compared to the other ones, but only the devs can say for sure.
