So, I went on a coding spree during the last few days, and this is the result. Basically I was trying to learn the game during the holidays and realized that, although there were some nice tutorials on youtube, they taught little besides the basics. After understanding those, there was no real way to learn how to play at a mid to high level. So, I decided to spend some time getting better at the game, and then fix the problem myself. I've completed the first, and this site is my attempt at fixing the latter.

Right now there's not a lot of content on it, just a (not so) short introduction and an initial guide. And some nice sidebars. I'm proud of those. Anyway, I'm posting because I need some help: Most immediately, I need feedback. How does it look, how readable is the text (believe me there were some problems earlier), does it break in IE -3.4? In the long term, I'm going to need help producing content. My goal is to put up enough for people to learn and improve at the game, and I'm neither an oracle nor a printing press.

My biggest priority right now is that I'd like to put up a wiki for PA units, build orders, ect. Something like Liquidpedia. That's a project that will definitely need volunteers, so if you want to do something for the game and get involved, get in touch.

    Current roadmap for the site:
    • Get css working (done)
    • Make it possible to post stuff (done)
    • Make it possible to read stuff (done)
    • Neat dynamic twitch sidebar (done)
    • Put up a wiki
    • Fill wiki with content (this is what I need help for)
    • Add comments
    • Fill rest of site with content too
    Link to actual site.

    Anyway, thoughts, suggestions, requests?

TL;DR: Just click the link, I guess...

    I took a quick look, URL: http://planetarystrategy.com/article/a-game-of-numbers
gives me a 500 internal server error.

Obviously, you need content. Finding people willing to write for you or share content from their sites will help a lot. There are already several wikis with lots of unit information, and lots of videos/strategy guides to be found (already). You might start there.

To be honest, I think the colours are a bit hard on the eyes. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I'm looking through glasses with the wrong prescription. I don't have any good ideas here, but I thought I'd say it. I think it's the white on grey.

    I like the functional layout.

Does beta testing your site give me access to the retail version? :p

You're getting a server error because that url should be http://planetarystrategy.com/guide/a-game-of-numbers. That means that the urls are being generated wrong somewhere...

Ok, nvm, found the problem. (there's seperate content types for guides and articles and it seems the front page automagically treats everything like an article)

EDIT: I also agree that there's something wrong somewhere with the text+background combo. I was playing with line spacing last night, and that seemed to help, but something's still off.

Looks good so far! Lacking a little content, but that's nothing a bit of time and work wont fix! If I find some time, maybe I can help with some content. I used to be able to do all this fancy coding stuff, but that's been replaced by physics and math knowledge, so I couldn't help you on that front at the moment... :(

EDIT: I could potentially help out with some graphics stuff, but I'm sure you can find more experienced/competent people with better software out there. Keep up the good work!

Just to add, if I click your "by the numbers" link on your webpage, it works fine. If, however, I click an external link (like the one in your message) I am taken to a blank IP address.

    Still, nice work so far.

Looks good. The design is clean and easily readable (I looked at it just now). The 'a game of numbers' section is a wall of text, I'd rather the paragraphs be shorter, with some gameplay images in the mix. Even if a section doesn't really need images, it makes reading the page fun instead of a slog (for this section you could show a small 'newb' force versus a massive 'experienced' deathball for example).

Yeah, a lot of readers are intimidated by walls of text. I read it no problem, but it would make it easier to show diagrams, pictures etc. Also, I'm sure that you could have cut out some of the text, as you repeat yourself a few times.

Detail is great, but just remember that some people don't like long reads, so be "efficient" with your word count, and have a few pictures, diagrams or videos.

Your content is good though, it is quite thoroughly explained! :)

I'll definitely work on getting some images in, need to get the backend and css for it.

Welcome to the realm of fan sites for PA. Its good to see more of these sites popping up. Keeps things competitive.

I look forward to how you plan to implement your unit database.
